OK folks, check it out, the new WIKI. Register and you can edit any pages or content. Please register and lets get it going. I started it off with a few links. Hit "Edit" to edit any page.

Click a link, say the "ethanol" link. Now you can hit "edit" and you can edit _any_ of the information.

To add a new link do this:

[[topic]]

such as:

[[absynthe]]

so your line in the text might be:

One type of spirit is [[absynthe]].

Once you save the page you'll see your new link which will say "absynthe". if you follow that new link you created you'll get a blank page. put in all your info on absynthe and save it. Now there is a page on absynthe which can be referenced anywhere in the wiki with [[absynthe]].

understand?

look at the main page and hit "edit" to see.

This thing is awesome. We'll easily be able to use this for recipes as well as anything else we wish to add which has to deal with alcohol.

I went in and typed a few tests under my name to play around with the software.

What is the structure going to be? Is it a continuatlly evolving article with highlighted blue words which are links that people click on to get additional information? Or is it going to have tabbed headings for each differing article?

Post by Uncle Jesse »

not sure on that yet. It will evolve, I suppose! as it grows we will have to adapt. i'm not good on the visual/presentation side but i'm good for content.

i've started populating some content...but of course, the references are practically limitless here.

I like it. It wont be too hard to figure out. I responded to one of your posts there, UncleJesse.

It will be nice to look up a recipe, try it out, respond to it, add variation, etc...

but they have to register and changes can be undone by the admin.

it relies on good will. it works, really, check:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

hit "random page", there is an unbelievable amount of useless info there.

we can do the same.

sure

Post by Uncle Jesse »

i can certainly do that but i believe it's far more limited.

the WIKI has a bigger purpose. a sort of all-inclusive, ever-evolving FAQ.

agreed that it's more than just some recipe database, but i think it will be better in that it can include a lot more. these static messages are good but not as easy to follow at times as a single page devoted to a recipe or mash type.

and it's not going to happen overnight either.

UncleJesse,
I added a couple things under "Discussion"
I was thinking, maybe under discussion, maybe we could have a "Flavorings Recipes" and a seperate "Wash and Mash Recipes" topics ?

Just a suggestion...because I know that if I wanted a good recipe for a blackberry brandy wash, and all could find was a recipe to flavor a nuetral spirit, that would kinda suck, and vise-versa.

It isn't that bad....the jabber is gonna take me a while...
Wiki is going to be an easily searchable database. if there is info that we know each other might need at one time or another, we can share it there (as well as here) but on wiki, we will be able to search for the topic easily.
Say that you want a good wash recipe for something similar to Cognac, you remember seeing one in this forum, but can't remember where...well it could take you all day to search for it. In wiki, you can just go to the search bar, type Cognac and you will get what you were looking for.

Think of it like a "Homedistiller Encyclopedia" a searchable database.
If people can search for an answer to a question before they ask it....maybe we can eliminate alot of iritating repetitve questions. Maybe...

I know. I like helping people too, but sometimes I want to do a little research on my own to try and figure things out before I ask questions.
