Don't know about essence, but you could ferment some barley, UJSSM style, and add some malt extract into the wash. I have done this many times and it usually turns out good.

Are you suggesting that the whiskey flavour is in the stuff left behind after all the alcohol (and most of the water) have been boiled off?

I have to agree..though it might seem alittle tough to start making a real whiskey. I am starting my second batch and loving it. Personally i am finding whiskey easier than making a neutral then flavouring it. give it a try and you will see.

you don't have to plunge into all grain, UJSM and it's varients taste better than any essence I've ever tried.

I don't know of any of the active members that are making essences. (or using them anymore) Now, if you want to make real whiskey, most of us can get you headed in the right direction.

here is a small list, there is thousands of them but it gives you an idea of what is involved.

hey blanik, I guess some people wouldnt know help if it jumped up and hit them in the nuts.

Gotta question the "need" versus "want" aspect... Is it "I need to know how to make whiskey essences" or is it "I want to know how to make whiskey essences"...??? Being politically correct might help...

being politically correct or not, there are ALOT of good and knowledgeable people here that love to help people. when some FNG comes along and insults the group like that, it kinda gets me in a bad way, without this group and all of the knowledge here, I would not be where I am at. If you feel there is no help here move along and let us be, YOUR LOSS!

getting back on topic,,good or bad essences are artificially produced much like food flavoring and not something you can do in your kitchen "chemistry kit"

Now come on guys. Jest because he insulted yo a little - ain't no cause to be unhelpful.

The way to do it is like this:-
You go to the liquor store and buy y'self a dozen bottles or so of the best whiskey you can get.
Laphroaig 40yr or better, Nothin' less than $50 a bottle will do.

Then you open all them bottles and pour em into a big old pot (a garbage pail will do just fine) Then you heat it up on the stove until it's good and boiling. And you keep it thet way until the liquor is all gone and you got this dried powder in the bottom.

Add some water to that an you got your whiskey essence.

Aw heck!

like i said there isn,t much help here. i,m making good whiskey with the oak chips but just was trying to find out how to make it taste a little better. thanks any way

This site could teach a mentally challenged chimp to make and distill a whiskey in a safe and very flavourful way...apparently you come below that level....

And obviously you arent making good whiskey with just oak chips...whiskey doesnt need essences...so it sounds like you made a bunch of crap that you are somehow trying to make possible to stomach. GL and enjoy your good whiskey.

well you are wrong. people that drink it say it,s good. but i put essence in my first batch and i liked it. so i,m just trying to find an additive to make it a little better.but people here are ...........

if you like essence then by all means use them. dunder gave you a list of additives so go play around. had you done a search on additives you would have found no one here much use's them. they sell lots of them i'm sure. most folks here kinda look down on them for whatever reason.

yes i like them. and i was just trying to find out how to make it. and not to be put down because i use them.like i said every one has different taste.

no becouse the three ingredients you need are a good mash,,good distilling,and time(perferably in a barrel). nothing will or has replaced thoes.
Iv tried "shortcuts" came up with drinkabul stuff. but still lacked somthing and that was time.and that is best sirved in a barrel.
next is in glass with wood,with air space,stowe it away and forgit about it for a year or more.
