Hello Mentors -- I have been reading and gathering information on here for a few weeks. I started building my first Pot Still a couple weeks ago. Basic design - Straight Wall Copper Pot (13.5" WIDE x 24" TALL) calculated it out to approx 13.5 Gallons and using a seperate condensing bucket.
My questions:
How do I calculate the opening size in the lid? I'm planning on soldering a 1.5 inch copper elbow to to the lid and reducing down (planning on reducing to .5"). Is 1.5" opening okay or should I go bigger? Not planning on a verticle column on top, just the elbow. Your recommenations?
This leads me to my second question. How do I calulate the lenght of the lynn arm/cooling coil and is .5" diameter cooling line enough or should I go bigger? I am considering a thumper.. My thoughts on the thumper are ... I can always add it later.
Finally - what's the most wash you would run in this size pot? How high should I fill it to not risk boil-over in to my finished product?
Thank you for your help.
On a side note - I have a 6 gallon wash of Wineo's reciepe started.. I'm excited to see how this turns out.
