Aging both whiskey and rum with white birch??

So i want to try something different. I want to age a whiskey and a rum with white birch. Has anyone given this a try?

Wait that wasnt supposed to be white oak. White birch was what i meant

OK, that makes more sense. My answer to your second question is no but looking up an answer to your question it looks like Darek Bell owner of Corsair Artisan Distillery and author of Alt Whiskey's makes reference to birch in smoked whiskey's not aging. He says it is a softer wood similar to maple.
