Sugarwash questions...

Sugar, and all about sugar washes. Where the primary ingredient is sugar, and other things are just used as nutrients.

Great topic Rooster, I'm just settling my first sugar wash - turbo yeast - and a couple of comments here have reassured me that I'm on the right track with what looks like a 10% wash. I'm going to let it settle for a few days at least while I finish building my 15litre pot still, then see if I can use taste and smell to get a bottle or two of hooch as a first attempt.

Well I'm dang near done with my larger version of this rig.
Went up to 2.5" on my column diameter set on top of a beer keg.
I posted in the design section about cooling coil lengths but nobody responded. I ended up tonight using about 30' of 3/8" copper for the condensing coil. I'm guessing this will knock down almost anything I can throw at it.
I've got a whole batch of Birdwatcher's ready to run this weekend and see how she does!
I will post pics tomorrow. She's a sexy beast. Looking forward to playing with my new toy.
Thanks again to all that have put so much time in here and to all the responses.

Finished my new rig Friday and ran 12 gal of Birdwashers' through her on Saturday.
It ran really fast compared to my small set up. A nice change from babysitting something for two or three nights.
I still have questions about the wash not clearing though. I have never had one clear at all. On the last two batches I have siphoned most off the top into another container then filtered through a cotton shirt into another container before letting it sit for a few more days but it never cleared well. There was still sediment in the container after I siphoned into the boiler. Aftertaste isnt really an issue but it seems like it should clear better.
This last batch sat for over a week after siphoning and filtering through a shirt and had a funky white skim over the top of the wash.
Has anyone made these washes and had them clear good?
BTW I cut my Tomato paste volume in half and put a crushed multivitamin in to each batch. (6 gal)
I have followed the original recipe and the same thing happened (not cleared well)

I also started another wash last night but added a little more sugar and it is not taking off near as well as all of my other batches. I may have pushed it a little to far. Do I add more water and yeast if it doesnt kick off?
Should have stuck with what works...

Man I'm a dumbass... Sorry ahiarue, just found your reply . Let me know how it goes. This is a lot of fun. Just read, read, read is all I can say. Everybody here helps out a lot but it seems like so many little things that are important seem to slip by me even after going over everything.
