Not sure, using a French yeast something gold..... (in bed can't read the pkt)8 day ferment with 6 kg dextrose (I get it very cheap) Yeast is $3.80 for 500g. 100% sugar consumption by yeast
Started with sugar and supermarket Yeast for first couple of washes, but the new formula is so much better.

Difference between first and last is amazing..... just start a new one today.... we will see

How does your recipe compare to the Birdwatchers recipe in the Tried & True recipe section?

Mostly the same
25 Ltrs filtered water
200 legos tomato paste
1/4tsp citric acid
82 grams SAF Gold Instant Yeast
6 kg dextrose (yes it is better if u get it cheap)
1 1/4 cups of activated carbon recycled from polishing (as per your main page)
Cold mix, use garden hose based filter so use a blasting garden hose to mix and air rate, Connected with a heater for 26C
Screams along for 8 days and stops dead, giving 2.65 ltrs of usable, 150ml heads and no tails taken, turn still at 57C

But still learning, but god I am loving it

Using much backset?
Could be your next approach.

Have you done that SL? I've never used tomato backset and never would have thought of using it. I use it for rums and grains, but then I'm using it for added flavor. Mind you, I always want more than one still charge worth of TPW, so use a bigger fermenter and get the fermenting side over and done with in one large ferment.

Not yet.
Just made my first 3 BirdWatcher's ever last night. Bubbling now.
Thought of backset next round, and the OP seemed to be in the right place for asking if he had.

I did reply to this once, but can't see it?

so here goes again

is backset a flavor thing or a economic one or both? Can it be frozen or refrigerated between washes?

Spoke to a guy that is up to his 14 cycle with the same yeast batch....... I did not think about it much at the time as I purchased 1.5 kg of yeast to start with....... but if it is a flavor thing I am sitting upright and listening

Both and yes.
I wouldn't use it in TPW unless I only drank it in Bloody Marys :D

Backset = nutrients. I'm a sugar wash addict also because of access to free turbinado. Never occurred to me either to use it either.

More like Backset = lots of Tails type flavor, something you might not want to add to a wash that your hoping will have as little flavor as possible.
Last thing on earth I'd be adding to my TPW's

Well I'd like to thank every one for the Backset advice.
Hopefully this post has helped the OP as much as it did me.
Being just smart enough to be dangerous, I'm in awe of the knowledge here.
Another puzzle piece locked in.

No Backset in my neutral.
