There is one combination that does not work very well. If you use oxy/acetylene to braze copper to stainless steel, using yellow brass, you will destroy the stainless steel if the brass becomes thicker than the ss. The different coefficients of expansion may cause the stainless to have micro cracks radiating from the braze outward to two inches long. This has happened to me three times. I had to scrap both the bowls and the idea. The copper brazing, like used for silver soldering hvac tubing it not as bad but can work. The best luck I have had joining copper to stainless steel is by using a good mechanical connection and then use soft tin with silver content using very low temperature gas or electric soldering techniques and hydrochloric acid and zinc chloride liquid or paste. There have ben others on this forum complain about the brass brazing nearly destroying their setup.
