police found my still

Post by goblin »

police executed a search warrant on my property, they found who they were looking for.
i had my still setup with 10 gallons worth of stripping runs. was going to run first thing in the morning.
i ran it after they left. i had 24 gallons of wash still to process. my last run was yesterday.
broke down my still, going to get rid of it in a safe place.
i only will have un-taxed liquor on site.

some of the police were cool about it.

glad i did not go to jail, and was able to keep my pot still

too many people/police know about my little secret, so i must stop.
i will probably go back to brewing beer once i get kegging equipment.
it has been fun, but i am out of glass bottles to fill.
good time to move on.

and why would they go to the trouble of getting a warrant, executing it and then not arrest you for the crime and sieze the evidence.

i know you said some of the police were cool...but damn, that pretty much goes against everything they do in a day's work.

i can't even catch a break on a speeding ticket.

The police in most major cities have no clue its illegal I think... Probably due to all the popup ads on Facebook selling stills. Its just an unknown to them.

Goblin , what I am taking from this is that the cops had a warrant for someone else for a different offence and just stumbled across your still . Is that correct ?

Makes sense since warrants tend to be very specific. Sounds like the cops were being cool to you about it because it was a small operation and they weren't looking for you or your still.

Count your blessings. You're making a smart call shutting down for a while. Hope they don't come back now for you.

Wow, we have had several posts on busts but I think this is a first. Good luck with the follow-up and if they do return with the proper warrant you better have a good answer where everything went.

I doubt if they will be back looking for a hobby size still; they have more important stuff to do unless they want to see the story in a newspaper.
Now if it was 500 gallons you would be in deep crap.
Put it in a safe place and give it a few months to blow over and.....

If they took video/photos of the still I can't think of any reason they'd do that if they weren't planning on coming back. I also would not have allowed them to take photos/videos, they can't without permission.

They now have evidence to support yet another search warrant - for your property and you this time... Those pictures and videos that you let them take are also legally allowable as evidence against you because you were fully aware that they were taking them... Good luck because I have a gut feeling you're gonna need it... They acted casual so they didn't raise suspicions that they'd be back... Be afraid...!!! Be very afraid...!!! Just sayin...

I don't think they'd have given him such a chance to clear away all the evidence if they were that concerned.

They confiscated zero booze so they really don't have any proof he wasn't running a nice water distillation setup.

Now they did take pictures for a reason though. It's an odd situation indeed.

+1 rad.... the pics and vids are a problem. If they come back and ask you where it all went, you have to dis-own the shi#. "It was by cousin's friend Waldo, he took it all back to Godnoswhere in Cali."

If they are serving a warrant at your place, then your place or some person's activity there has their attention.

They took the videos in case they ever want to some back to search again, for anything, at anytime... They need no more than those pics/video to get a legal warrant. They aren't going to really care about your still, but what else they can see while they are there. And that warrant is for the whole address. It's a "foot in the door" so to speak.

Picture this: The police believe there is someone they want, or some illegal activity on your property. They may not have enough evidence, or the evidence they do have may not admissible in court. They no longer need to prove it. Just get the warrant for the still and bust down the door. Once they are inside anything in plain sight is fair game. They can also detain anyone there for investigation.

Your still just became a tool in a cop's toolbox.

and this in the next thread:
“And the still was in plain sight,” said Sheriff Harden. “So we got a search warrant this morning, executed the search warrant, we found the still there, it was a working still. Found the mash behind the house, and also inside the house we found some untaxed liquor.”

Harden and his team came back to search the home after getting a warrant.
get that equipment gone, and get some sleep. could be an early morning tomorrow. good luck.

If a judge signed a search warrant and it wasn't for your stilling and shine, ditch it all. Eat an awesome meal, drink your finest shine and get good sleep, could be a long few days.
