favorite mixed drink

Post by possum »

Although most good hootch can be drunk straight or with an ice cube, what is your favorite mixed drink that uses your homade stuff as the main alcohol component ?

For my rum, I like medium to dark rum and coca-cola and a little piece of lime and crushed ice.

I like the red raspberry(wineberry) panty dropper with tonic.

For my apple wood whiskey, I like black cherry soda and ice.

Pina Cloada with rum, (Goya) pinapple juice, and a little(Goya)cream of cocunut, shake.

For my all tails, grain based whiskey (consumed white) I like a bit of sprite or other lemon lime, and ice. Its a touch oily, but in a goood way. Has a very distinctive odor.

What do you like ?

That would be a 'Cuba Libre' and that's my favorite too.

Though I usually drink my stuff (oak-aged fruit brandies) neat, or on the rocks, I find that ginger ale is perfect with just about everything I make. It doesn't add so much sugar and doesn't mask the flavor of the good stuff. I'd say it complements the distillate, rather than masking it.

I've also taken to using a dilluted fruit juice (made from the same fruit as the distillate) for a splash. The first swallow is perfect, with the taste of the distillate highlighted by the same fruit coming through in the dilluted juice. However, the second cocktail isn't all that different from something made with storebought.

I like my rums with vanilla coke.
I like everything else on rocks, or chased with a similar flavored juice.

I like (and so does my wife!) my corn whiskey with coca-cola. I also like it pure, in a balloon glass to have a maximum of smell...

One of my favourites is Vodka - Tomato juice (bloody Mary), with a bit of tabasco or home made hot pepper liquor!

i almost allways drink "teknikt", a drink made out of tea and spirits.

the name means something like tea-knight. not sure why the knight, but it may have something to do with the spirits?

this is how i mix:

1/2 cup of well sugared tea (well = about 3 tablespoons)
fill the rest up with spirits (37,5% / 40% in my case)

adjust the recipe after taste....

the best teas to use: (all from twinnings, if possible)
- four red fruits
- earl grey
- lady grey (some citrus fruits in this one)
- strawberry

My white rum makes a awsome mojito.

Mojito: Tall glass. Crush two or three fresh mint leaves and put in bottom of the glass. Fill glass with crushed ice. Top ice with two spoonfulls of sugar. Add three or four ounces of white rum then squeeze a quarter of a lime into the glass and drop in the squeezed rind. Top off glass with good tasting drinkin' water. Stir.

Enjoy.

While I still haven't run anything other than water thru my newly created still ( too busy with work and such) I'm planning on making good dark Whiskey..my favorite and some good clean Vodka. About the only 2 boozes I drink. Mostly I go on the rocks straight. But my favorite drink which I hadn't tried for a while is a Smoky Martini. I conjured one up this weekend after getting ahold of some really old Henry McKenna that was darker than coffee and tasty as all getout.

A Smoky Martini is just Vodka on the rocks and a nice swirl of good dark smoky Whiskey or Scotch. MMMmmmmmmm Oooooweee - dey wondermous I ga-run-tee! DON'T use flavored vodka and don't add fruit or vermouth.

Relax...be happy...try one today.
cheers

This state grows a lot of oranges and grapefruit. This is what my wife and I make sometimes when the fruit is good and cheep...

Juice 2 rio red grapefruit, 5 oranges, 3 limes, and a couple tablespoons local honey. put it in a blender about half filled with crushed ice... blend it smooth, add vodka.. or tequila....nice when the weather gets hot.

I drink my whiskey straight or a little ice...

love mojitos...

I make corn whiskey, age it in oak barrels. My favorite drink is to take two shot glasses, fill one with whiskey the other with rootbeer. Then drink the shot of whiskey, savor the taste, then drink the rootbeer. If rootbeer is not available reglar beer will work just as good.

if ya use real lemon to lower your ph, follow the recipe on the back for your white lightnin. makes a damn fine hot weather adult beverage! :D

let the lemonaide set for a few hours after you make it for the best flavor.

Well we have a fridge keg system for our beer. So, we put a second keg in with a T piece and put a carbonated water in too. Now whenever we want mixers, we can make al sorts of weird and wonderful concoctions eg cranberry juice, lime and soda water with my rum, or a tonic water with the Gin.

We keep a range of juices and syrups in the door of the fridge and people (the kids) can mix and make what they want.

my fav would have to be "Grog" (and yes if you live in Oz this means anything with alcohol in it). its ether dark navy rum and water (the traditional way) or navy rum, water, lemon, and sugar. i drink just the rum and water (although i use soda) with ice. LOVE IT :D

When I visited Celebration Distillation last week I had a drink they called a Gingeroo. It was made with fresh squeezed ginger root juice, simple syrup, carbonated water Old New Orleans Crystal Rum and topped with cranberry juice. I don't know the portions but it was a real chugger for a girly drink. I loved it.

I prefer what I call SunShine. You make it just like sun brewed ice tea. You simply sub the water with 80 proof and drink on ice.

I like the rum I've been making with a splash of Pepsi just fine. My all time favorite drink would have to be Havana Club Anjeo Reserva (the 5 year old) with pepsi, but in Chilean fashion....... pour a glass full of rum with about 3 ice cubes and serve with a bottle of Coke-a-Cola. Man I miss Santiago!
I only have to do this until the trade embargo against Cuba is lifted!

I prefer all my drinks "neat" no ice, water, or mixers. Brandies, single malts, Irish other whiskeys. No ice, splash of water sometimes.

If its good, don't destroy it! If it ain't good don't drink it.

I like my whiskeys neat or with a splash of water to open them up. But I also love the UJSM with sprite or coke, and also love my wife's Irish Coffees made with UJSM.
