yep seems like several are jumping in to kickem when they down .Lets all remember rule 2. Be polite and courteous. Remember that nobody is perfect and nobody knows everything. We've all got our strengths and limitations which is why we share information with each other in the first place. Remember that we're all different and nothing is going to change that fact.

To be honest, I think it'd be cool to know the total, the answer might be surprising, but thats not the kinda information that should be collected and published IMO.

No, I think you are wrong there... We are a very discrete group, for good reason... Boasting tallies just provides tangible evidence for government agencies to use against members as well as this site as a whole... They can twist and turn numbers to their advantage, not ours... If you'd like to forward your distillation logs to the government then go right ahead but most here rarely make more than an occasional vague reference to the volumes of spirits they distill or have on hand as aging stock...

Not sure what the taxes applied to spirits in other countries are, but in Australia - the tax on spirits is about $72 /L of alcohol (so 2L of 50% is $72... Etc.)

It wouldn't take too many litres to make the tax office, liquor licensing agencies etc. interested in what we are doing... Just 2 or 3 beer keg runs is going to produce a several hundred $ in lost taxes - generally - it wouldn't be worth the cost of an investigation / prosecution if you just produced a bottle of whiskey here and there - but there will be a point where the lost taxes make it certain they will become interested.

Not sure too many members want to supply the agencies with the rope that will ultimately hang them :)

Just as well I only ever produce small amounts of distilled water or oils :)

No, I think we are both right. I think if there were no penalties, the tallies would be adding up. Yours would probably be in there also.
Now, listening to your experience. I see they won't. I have discovered alot in the last 24 hrs.

This thread should be swept under the cyber rug :silent:

Actually, this topic serves well in proving how the realities of hobby home distillation differ from the preconceived notions that people have developed... As they become more exposed to the hobby they find out rapidly that they need to keep a very low profile...

How well can we all keep a secret...??? I know I've been with the same woman for 21+ years and she knows nothing about my participation in this hobby... It's just one of those things I don't talk about and don't exploit... But she has become quite interested ever since the recent airing of the Moonshine series on The Discovery Channel... I think the day of reckoning is coming... She wants to make moonshine... :lolno:

And she still has no clue where the bodies are buried... :silent:
