Yaks tasting notes

Post by yakattack »

I'm starting this as a thought repository for different store bought spirits. Tasting notes. Ect. This is by no means and endorsement for any spirit.

Junction 56 distilary.
Vodka

First impression
Smell - sweet. Heads rich.
Taste - sweet also. Late heads but zero burn. Slight vinella/ light caramel flavor.

Overall 6/10. Good for shots but to sweet for a sipping vodka.

Gin

Smell - same base smell as their wheat vodka (look above) late heads cut.
Juniper and citrus comes through. Mellow but sweet.

Taste. More headsy taste then their vodka but could be due to the spices. Sipping straight it's a bit harsh.

On the rocks - smell - really opens up the juniper. Pleasant. inviting.
Taste - mellower then the spirit on its own. Would benight from tonic for sure.

Overall 5.5/10

Thoughts. Needs a cleaner neutral as a base. To much late heads for my preference.

Yak.

Nice let me know when your headed my way, I will pickup a bottle of North of 7 Gin and maybe a bottle of there Vodka. Both are made somewhat local to me (about 1 hour drive). Not bad stuff. The gin is a bit more than others but I think its worth it.
