New bill omits home distilling

Post by amdamgraham »

So the new version of the craft modernization bill does not include home distillation in the summary. https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-con ... e-bill/236" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
The prior bill included the 24 proof gallons per year.

#1 - Has there been an explanation of why that changed?

#2 - If the answer to #1 is "no" could it be this is because that portion was too politically sensitive so was killed or is it possible that it was removed from the summary so that the home distilling part could be added later in deliberation so that nobody is held politically responsible for it?

I watched the interview with Rick from HDA last week, he said one of the concerns that had been made, was that of the risk of increased House fires if it was allowed...that says to me that the Insurance Lobby has their fingers in the pie.

Insurance lobby can't possibly care. Good or bad they just crunch numbers and pad on a profit. They even work with actual numbers and know there are virtually no house fires caused by home distilling. It just wouldn't affect their bottom line at all, and if it did, they would just do the math, and raise everyone's rate a half a cent.

I think house fires are as much a red herring as going blind.

That being said, I know a guy on the finance committee, better send him a letter. (Well at least I know the name of a guy on the committee :)

As I'm stated before on his Home Distilling legislation, it doesn't matter who's in favor of it or how many co-sponsors it has. What really matters is who opposes it and these people or their lobbyist often work behind the scene
