I have had my interest peaked recently on producing methanol for use as fuel. I have been doing a bit of research on the subject, and I think I may attempt a project involving deriving the methanol from waste scraps of wood, and dead leaves. One factor pushing me to start now is I have run across a number of barrels I can use to build the still with; they are not food quality, but since I am using them for fuel research/production I wont have to worry about that.
Here is one of few links on methanol production for anyone that is interested in the same subject: http://www.nextnature.net/?p=3290" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
I will also do some digging into the idea of producing ethanol from food scraps one could obtain from local restaurants/schools/cafeterias, as it may turn out to be more feasible than methanol production.
I will keep updating my post as I progress (although slowly moving forward due to other aspects of life), and also, any info on the topic is much appreciated (just no flaming please ).
