alcohol in two stroke fuel question
been thinking about buying one of those two stroke engines that you can mount onto a pushbike. thinking of adding alcohol to the fuel mix and cutting out some of the petrol. wonder if if anyone has gone down this path before ? i have read some throw their foreshots into their mowers and use it that way. admitably those little engines get about 100 k's to $2 already from what little research i have done . maybe i am just being stingy but i thought i'd ask the question anyway.

did a quick google, looks like someone figured it out

looks like you need to add more oil as alcohol is dry....

I agree with shady
Ethanol has none of the lubricating properties is gasoline
Adding more oil isn't a solution either, ethanol would separate from oil much faster than gasoline even with a catalyst

Re: alcohol in two stroke fuel question
I know people that run methanol in two strokes. But its not the same as ethanol.
I would leave the junk ethanol fores and heads. For the car or truck. And only if it was higher ABV then 90%. And a jug of it to a full gas tank isn't that strong.
I could run a two stroke on $5 worth if gas. For a long time. It costs me more to go get the gas for the two strokes I use. Then it does for me to run them.

Re: alcohol in two stroke fuel question
The biggest concern would be whether or not all crankshaft and carburetor seals are ethanol tolerant... Would really suck (pun intended) if a crankshaft seal went back and a vacuum leak caused a lean burn failure issue... Gasoline tolerant is not the same as ethanol tolerant...

Re: alcohol in two stroke fuel question
oh well it was a thought that was all. i have a rather expensive road bike as in push bike that i haven't been able to use due to a back injury. been feeling pretty good of late would like to get back on the bike however the roads are crap where i am now so i was thinking a mountain bike with some power assist
i did a little more looking seems you can get similar 4 stroke engines now. still (no pun intended) even if i did go down that path a couple of dollars for petrol is pretty cheap running i guess.
