My New 7 gallon Pot Still....

Postby straight_shot » Thu Apr 19, 2012 8:06 am

Bought my new still from walnut creek....
Good and bad....but it is what it is. If I had it to do over, I would have built it myself.
But....my first run of sweetfeed yielded 8 pints from 140 proof down to 120.
Dumped this back in with the second wash and the first 8 pints came off at 150 proof, then the next 6 tapered from 145 to 120.
Not sure if this is typical of the results others get with a thumper, but I'm happy.

I originally thought about going to a keg and column, but I just love the look of copper....couldn't help myself.

straight_shot, I think what you suffered was a case of eye-candy winning out over that common sense voice in the back of your head... You're not the first not will you be the last to suffer that affliction... Make the best out what you have and consider it a learning experience... Now you'll be able to determine what does and doesn't make a decent still from first-hand experience... Consider it part of lifes learning experience...

I think it looks like crap! You should send it to me so I can dispose of it proper. And you can build a proper still. :moresarcasm:

Thanks Hc, it seems to run pretty well, after the modifications and repairs. I think its a keeper.
