MoonBreath's Mini-Modular Distiller

Post by MoonBreath »

Definitely not finished yet , will be adding drain, 5500w, thermo, and sight glass to the pot ..
Element assembly finished, control box not ..Makes a fine drop is why I had to post it ..
Much planning, researching, and love are involved ..Next will be a hobby scale limit boiler.
Modulars are my passion ..woodshed, you and LWTCS could be considered sperm donors for this little multi -trick pony ... :lolno: Modular Madness!
Of course I welcome all feedback, good, bad, or ugly.

Looks good mate. Got any info on it?, plates? Etc. How big?, condensers?, is it lm/vm?. So many questions, so little time

Thank you googe ..I'm gonna go just a little out on the limb and say cm, vm, and who knows, maybe some lm also ...Its 2-4" bubble plates, 7" of 2" riser, 4" tall 2" dephleg with 3/8" in-outlets with 3/8"gate valve on outlet ...From simple potstill to extended riser with packing and separate pump for dephleg, or no packing, short riser, with partial reflux (just keepn the plates loaded) by running warm water from liebig water output through dephleg ...I can go on and on ..Liebig is 29" of 1" over 1/2" into a standing parrot ..Picture of reflux condenser to help. :D

Nice still MoonBreath. Modular is the way to go in my book. Does that 4"x 2" deflag knock it down pretty well?

Thank you humbledore ..I caught that 'modular fever' and can't seem to shake it. :D
Yes it does works well ..Haven't put it to an extended, packed column yet ..
There will be a point where a larger dephleg would be required ..
I just haven't pushed it yet ...Now my solder joint failed at the elbow easy flange right after my first test run (after thorough cleaning), and haven't fixed it yet ..
I'm very happy with everything ...Now of course, thinkn bigger.

Thanks sassyfrass..I love options, and this gives a few more than other type stills ..
Well worth it, because once you get everything sized up to your preferences, its about the only still you'll ever need ..Then just start tweaking. :D

Definitely versatile MC ..Every time I look at it I have a question for Myself!!
Wonder what would happen if I packed (lightly) the riser with prepped charred oak chips?
Or anything for real? :D

Still fine tuning and tweaking this thang ..Welded the bad solder job and mocking up how I'm gonna try runnin this thang in the next couple days ..Without the dephleg, the top plate would barely load with just a very slight pool with slight activity ..This ought to give me the partial reflux I'm looking for ..Be glad to get the dephleg lines soldered up and get ur done. :D

Thank you woodshed ...Was thinkn about taken both 4×2 concentric reducers and replace them with 4×2 bowl reducers ..Adding a 4" long 2" riser under it, coming off the boiler ..Keepn the two plates in the bubble tee w/upper and lower bowl reducer ..
Small scale tho, may not make any difference in anything.

Still tweaking on this thang ..Modified my RC plumbing to include ball valve divert to give more tune ability ..Will be changing it yet again soon, eliminating the crossover due to slight backflow ..Then go with separate return lines ...But it still works really well with 96% beginning foreshots and a very good 62% finished product ..Jimbo's dephleg temp thread really got me thinkn ..Will add a 2" long nipple before the gate valve, drill a small hole and solder in a thermo coupler with digital thermo to monitor RC out temperature ..Will post that also .

Update :
I've tweaked and tweaked, run this thing every way possible, and this is pretty much the best setup I've come up with for my likes ..Totally modular, double bubble plate setup that can be changed out to bout anything ..I wrapped the riser with fiberglass thermal wrap for heat retention and the RC inlet line is wrapped with 3/8" pipe insulation ...This setup is shorter because the top torpedo reducer was replaced with a bowl reducer, allowing me to still utilize 2 bubble plates ..
Notice the white bread tie on gate valve that marks my RC sweet spot .

Got a knock on the door and was handed a box and well, my journey has become a whole new experience with this gin basket kit Modular accessory adds so much optional stuff to try..Had to do simple elbow with thermoport riser connection, couple plumbing options and upright therm on outlet and ready to try.
One bad piece of equipment for anyone's Modular arsenal.
Modular madness is still runnin wild.
