You can always solder on tri-clamp flanges instead of welding. Still some metalworking involved, but not as steep of a learning curve (or as much money invested in tools).
Also, Still Dragon offers a 2" TriClamp Weldless Bulkhead Fitting. It looks like it has silicone gaskets, so you might want to switch it to PTFE. It looks like just sanding off the bead on one side of a PTFE gasket would work.
It also might not work too well on a curved surface, which is probably a bigger issue for most boilers.

Solderable TC flange, radius cut so it fits perfectly on a keg, and a large surface area to give plenty of strength. Thing really is the bees knees, as long as you use the right solder you can pumch your hole, solder it on and be done in an hour with cleanup. Comes in 1.5 or 2", both will fit an element in a matching adapter.

Interesting to see that people seem to have an SPP column working perfectly nice and stable or with flooding or other issues and can't get it to work. Personally I'm using SPP from Poland on a 2" column 1100mm of packing, glass sight tube then a boka head. Boiler is T500 style with 2000w electric element. It's a breeze to run in my case, can run fast and is nice and pure.
