Cool find need insparation

Post by workpress »

Hi all

I have just scored this stainless tank it is 25" across (round) and is 6' tall. Any ideas on how to convert this into a big column still or something cool.

Just looking for ideas

Thanks

I calculate it within our size limit as it is just under 25 US gallons. The problem unless you have an industrial building your still will be very tall unless you somehow lay it on it's side which I am not sure is a good solution. Big thing to work with but pretty cool hope someone else comes up with an idea for you.
My mistake I multiplied diameter X Pi X height instead of radius squared

It looks like the size restriction has been amended to 30 gallons or under per rule #10

which this fine find certainly is under.

on another note I can finally drive by a milk tanker on the freeway without daydreaming.

Wow that's a big container - by my calcs it's over 150 gal cut it down to 1' and you can have a 25 gal boiler- or leave it as it is for a hella ferment tank

Was just about to say that. 25×25×.7854= 490.875 square inches 490.875×72=35,343 cubic inches 35,343÷231= 153 gallons.

136gallons if the legs are 8" tall.

"Just looking for ideas..."

I am not sure of the advantages and disadvantages but:
Certainly you can lay it on its side if you want a tall column.
You could use it as a pot still as it is.
You could set it up as a pot still with a thumper at a low level.
If you did that it might be possible to mount a column ON THE THUMPER. (A bit technical for me but it seems very possible).
It is possible to mount the column ON THE FLOOR BESIDE THE BOILER. (This is a bit technical for me but I have seen pix of it.)
In other words if you want to use it as a boiler, you can.

Is there a nameplate on this thing? Wonder if it has a pressure rating, etc. maybe a steam mash vessel, and have a large outlet on the manway toward the bottom into a tank for cooling, malt, fermentation.

Cool find.

Hi all

I relies that the size exceeds our limit, and at this time I am in the construction phase of a 1/2 size keg still. I found this On a job site and could not let this go for scrap. It was a tank for the carbon filter of a reverse osmosis filter all custom made. Out of curiosity as I do not know could this act as a giant flute with the boiler in the bottom and the plate baskets hanging from the top? As I said I am pondering

Thanks guys

That is a great piece.

You could cut it in half and make a boiler and a thumper.

Or you could cut it up and make a vessel in a vessel to make a bain maire steamer cooker stiller like Shadylane's or Fart Vader's Mashimizer.

Or a nice big azz masher/fermenter. Being tall and slender, it would work great for steam mashing.
