Started 2" combination still

Post by APD »

Had very little work this week but made it an excuse to take some time here and there to crack-on with an idea I had for a 2" copper combination still.

Building it like distillers-legos-porn, so I can mess around and plug-in play with components between various reflux combo's and a pot-still.

Haven't had much experience with running reflux stills so wanted to rectify that.

End of today I had ready for final buffing;
-2" dephelgmator with 5x 1/2 inch cooling pipes and thermo-mount.
-Still head with thermometer in mount and arm adjustment so I can cant the condenser/outlet away from column.
-500mm gatling/shotgun condenser with 5x 1/2 inch cooling pipes.

Planning on a 1 metre long 2" column that I can pack with copper mesh as plates/reflux medium.

Hate silver soldering stainless, ... always have at least some problem with it not wicking or wetting out despite toothing the joint area with sandpaper and cleaning the hell out of it. Kinda got there tho'.

Any thoughts/input is appreciated.

Onward and upward.

Nicely proportioned and well executed .
I'd say that was a good days work :thumbup:
You'll love the extra money and effort you put into making it as modular as you have

Yeah, that looks pretty and flexible. Wouldn’t take much to pipe it over to a thumper, either.

Very nice work APD. Would you mind telling me/us about the lid on your pot? That's right up my alley and I have a few ideas on how to make something similar but yours looks perfect.
Thanks, Adam
