butter

Post by frodo »

making home made butter is easy

all you need is a quart mason jar, with lid
and 1 cup of heavy whipping cream

pour the cream in the jar, shake it for about ten minutes

till it separates into a ball of butter and butter milk, strain off the b-milk

save the butter milk for biscuits or drink it, wash the butter in cold water

form it, put it in a jar

A dairy company I worked for used to let its staff have a Mason jar of cream every so often. Most of it got turned into butter.

Another sweet deal was a 5lb block of cheese from a small cheesemaker a few miles away for bugger all $. We were most unhappy when they got taken over by the Big Boys.

I made butter the other day. Took some heavy cream, put it in the kitchen aid to make whipped cream, got busy doing something else and by the time I got back to it I had butter  didn't have any whipped cream for my strawberries

Nobody mentioned that you should let the cream go sour first.

For cultured butter, I use yogurt for a starter. Sour the cream first, then start shaking as you usually do. It is very nice. I always salt my butters.
