labels
Wasn't quite sure where to put this post but thought this was the appropriate location. I found a site that had free label designs that you could use and print out and then put on your bottles. I thought I could do a better job as I am not bad with Photoshop (older version 6.0) so I took their basic design which called for a 3.25 x 4.5 size label and came up with my own designs. This size fits nicely on a wine cooler bottle (375 ml) or a regular 750 ml size. My problem arouse when I went to Avery to find the correct size labels to print on. Then I found the following site.
http://www.letsdowine.com/lamapa.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
Was wondering if anyone else has a better site for purchasing labels.
Note: I am not going commercial (at least not yet) I just want to make a few fancy liqueur bottles for close family & friends for the holidays.

I haven't dealt with either but, here are two places that say they carry the 3.25 x 4.5 size labels:

If you get a chance I would like to see pictures of the labels you have made

Re: labels
I went to both sites but couldn't find that exact size.... The full sheet ones that I found for $5.95 they want over $10.00 to ship it. I will post pictures of both my coffee liqueur and my amaretto labels but I will fog out the city and state.Poitin wrote:Bushman,Bushman wrote: So I took their basic design which called for a 3.25 x 4.5 size label and came up with my own designs. Re: labels
Thanks the A4 paper is what I set my labels up for but just couldn't find them. I guess I am going to have to adjust my labels just did the conversion and they still don't measure the same? Grrr I got this size off a label from a commercial liqueur I bought.Rod wrote:Bushman , I assume you are on the westcoast of US , but I use this mob

Re: labels
If using an inkjet printer. Hairspray is a great sealant for the fron of the label and 70% milk - 30% UVA glue for the adhesive...
Makes cleaning the bottles a lot easier when the label just slides off...
Hope it helps...

Re: labels
Thanks Samohon, I am not into trying to make my label fit a different pre-existing size. I might experiment on an extra bottle to see how she works. I wonder if the hairspray is cheaper than buying the photo spray to seal the ink?Samohon wrote:If using an inkjet printer. Re: labels
A tad off topic, but here's a nifty little website designed to make beer labels. It doesn't have to be beer, though. I've used it to make vodka labels. You can use any of a number of pre-made designs or add your own jpg image to the label.

Re: labels
This is the one I was at when I first got my design sizes. I wanted more flexibility so I used photoshop and designed my own. I think I solved the problem as Samohon gave me a great idea, I am using a nice paper and just bought a role of clear adhesive paper to cover it with. Haven't tried it yet but will.Ian Jay wrote:Design your own bottle labels here for FREE:

Re: labels
OK, I used the clear transparent paper over the labels just printed with an inkjet printer on a natural vellum finish paper. Here is out it turned out!
Re: labels
Very nice look. Hard to see the art however. Can you post the art as a JPEG so we can see more detail?

Re: labels
Larry go up to the top of the thread as I did post it better there, I used Photoshop to design the labels and just took free images and combined them for the graphics. PS I blocked out the location of where it was produced and bottled!LWTCS wrote:Very nice look. Hard to see the art however. Can you post the art as a JPEG so we can see more detail?

Re: labels
Here's what I've done in the past for wine labels, you can do it for liqour i suppose, just say your taking graphic design classes and it's for a project it the person looks at you funny
1 design it
2 print it off at kinkos (they have a decent paper selection and good printing abilities)
3 Get a can of spray adhesive, like the kind you use to glue the fabric to the ceiling of your car
4 cut out labels, spray the back, and adhere to he bottle.
If you don't want the publicity you can always print your label out at home with this method

Re: labels
If your making liqueur labels, they do not know if it is made from a neutral or a store bought vodka which makes it legal to add to a kahlua recipe! But good suggestion they also have photo back adhesive I think Samohon refers to.guittarmaster wrote:Here's what I've done in the past for wine labels, you can do it for liqour i suppose, just say your taking graphic design classes and it's for a project it the person looks at you funny

Do you use it for backing or you quoted Samohon as to using it to seal the ink, seems like milk would make it run?

Re: labels
Right. I use it as glue to stick the label to the bottle. And YES, if you get it on the front, it makes the ink run unless you've sealed it... which I usually do not bother with.Bushman wrote:Do you use it for backing or you quoted Samohon as to using it to seal the ink, seems like milk would make it run?
pour the milk on a plate and just slide the paper across the surface.

Today I signed up for 5$ @ http://www.beerlabelizer.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow as a birthday gift from my brother. They have lots of templates but I like the shield best. I've made a dozen or more labels so far and could not be happier. (Thanks to Jimbo for referencing me there). If anyone want's a label without signing up, I'll snag it for ya.

I use beerlabelizer, great program. To make them turnout right often times need to gimp the image (free photoshop type program, check it out its great). And to change the font I make them without titles and add titles and font work in Powerpoint. Bushman, to get nice waterproof label stock just make it. Print out your labels, as many on a sheet of plain paper as you can fit. And pick up some laminating sheets at the office supply. They are designed to laminate front and back of the paper, so tear them down the crease and just laminate the front only. Use wifeys iron with a tshirt between. Works perfect with a little practice. Then cut them out and glue them on the bottles with a little elmers. Some blue painters tape helps hold the edges down until the glue dries.
Cheers, Jimbo
