Kansas clean distilled whisky?

Postby Prairiepiss » Tue Apr 03, 2012 3:49 pm

I found a bottle of this on the shelf the other day. It kind of disturbed me. But also intrigued me. If I remember correctly the bottle said something about it being a mix of aged whisky and a neutral spirit. But the website says its just a whisky ran through a reflux column for a near vodka whiskey? The color is a very faint brownish yellow. Actually looks like crap to me. Clear but the color is just not right. Simple bottle very little markings. To show the color. Or lack there of. All they had was a fifth. A little in the pricey side. So I was hesitant to buy at that time. I plan to buy a bottle soon. Just to try it. But I thought I would share with you all. And see what you all thought about it. To me it looks like a marketing gimmick to get the non whiskey drinkers to drink it. Or maybe a failed attempt to make a vodka. So they are just trying to sell it as lite whiskey. The website says its made with winter wheat? But I thought the bottle said just grain no mention of wheat. If it would have said wheat on it I would have bought it.

All and all it just kinda looks like someone trying to get into the trendy spirits market. I mite just be pissed because they took my idea to market. Before I did.

Ok now I'm really disappointed. It's produced by Fabulous American beverage. Out of New York. WTFlip? It's not even made in Kansas. Bastards! And what kind of name is that for an alcohol producer? Give me a break.
Here is another article about them.

Fabulous American Beverage sounds like Disco Duck's retirement venture.

No not yet. I didn't have the cash on me when I noticed it. I plan to go get some and try it soon. But I've had it on my mind ever since I saw it.

And you know what? It does kinda look like piss after a hard day working in the heat.

Looks to me like they're distilllin vodka from wheat and then blending it with some aged whisky they're gettin somewhere. It doesn't say anything about them distillin the whisky, or agin it. Just another flavored vodka gimmick. I do believe I'd rather try Odin's Rye Eau de Vie, a truely genuine "clean" whisky.

I love the web site basically saying aging is bad for whisky. Like 20 yr old metros in thumping clubs drinking plain label commercial rotgut to excess know anything about good alcohol. Mr P, tasting notes would be awesome but I would understand if you didn't want to spend a dime on it just to taste it.

Kansas Prairie Piss is a much better name for a trendy flavored vodka!

Ok gentlemen I bought a bottle tonight. $24.99 for a 750ml bottle. Nice bottle for the collection. Any way. Upon opening the bottle I was amazed at the smells I didn't get. It smells almost neutral. So I poured a glass on the rocks (made with RO water). Now I can detect a slight fruity smell. Almost a fresh coconut smell. Can't quite put my finger on it yet. It actually smells good. Maybe a hint of heads. Not much if any. Now for the taste. I'm getting a nice caramel flavor. It's not strong but it lingers on the pallet a bit. It reminds me of my all bran white dog but with more depth. I'm assuming that is coming from the aged stuff that is added to it. It has a slight burn on the front side but bairly any on the backside if any at all.

As much as I wanted to hate it. I can't. This to me is a nice product. It's not going to appeal to a hard core whiskey drinker. It would be to light for them. But it isn't vodka. I think I might could like to drink this.

I will try it again later and report back again. I had just finished eating and had an Irish stout before hand. So my pallet may be off. And or I may be off at this point.
