Japanese Whisky
Last night our neighbors from up the block came down to say hi. They brought a bottle of 17 year old Japanese Whisky. Talk about smooooth... have to say it was one of the best I've ever tasted. It goes for about $117 a bottle up where I'm from... about $75 at the closest Bevmo.

The still is not a liar. Mash and ferment quality is 99.9% of your performance.

Re: Japanese Whisky
So who's gonna step up and provide us with a Japanese whiskey recipe?

Re: Japanese Whisky
Wife and I were in Japan last fall and were absolutely amazed by the quality of Japanese whiskey. And so much cheaper there! If someone has any ideas or thoughts on crafting a Japanese style whiskey, I'd love to hear them too!

...blended whiskeys with all-malt grainbills, using a variety of different malts..often brewed in the tradition of Scottish distilleries and even some using a single malt basis.

The owner of Hali'imaile Distillery in Hawaii went to Japan to learn some of their techniques. Haven't been back to Maui to see if he has done anything with it. Would love to give it a try and see but not for $175.

Re: Japanese Whisky
I got lucky and got some of that whisky called rare old whisky suntory royal special reserve from the yamazaki distillery. I bought us a house last year from some older people and I spotted it in their cabinet. I saw the name and remembered seeing it on a tv show. I guess it is good to some but I did not care for it. It's a good conversation piece though. On tv the distiller said their whisky is so good due to their water. They had a stream going through on their property like most bourbon distilleries do here in ky

Had some Yamazaki Single Malt 2014 Limited Edition last night and it is indeed a very good drop.
