Bad Rap for alcohol

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Bad Rap for alcohol

Postby stillman » Sat Mar 04, 2006 9:39 pm

I just found this link on my web browser and it has a disturbing comment about alcohol consumption. I was hoping that some of the pros and experts could give a little more info.

Here's the link.

http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story. ... 206alcohol

Distillers have a hard enough time trying to convince people that distilling is safe enough if you know what your doing. It's easy to bash making alcohol in public but how do you support it?

It's no wonder that CNN stands for Chicken Noodle News.

Why all the sensationalism all the time?

"Perilous water of life"!!! I love it!!! I guess they don't know that a lot of rum, and all vodka are distilled to this proof, before dilution. Just a fluff piece.
Purposeful motion, for one so insane...

we have 95% abv neuteral spirits here in quebec, its called Alcool. Customers by it for flavouring them selfs, like fruit in jars, essences ect... then dilute to own strength. what the big hype over a whisky at this same proof, noones done a story on alcool..?, what the big beef? Its just cuz somone said death, and people crave this word in their daily dose of news...

I bet the whisky will suck, its kind of a waste of mash if you ask me. all the flavours will be stripped out. How can they call it a whisky anway..., the legal term for whisky is collected below 80% right? grr I hate news it angers my blood lol.

Although it is no longer sold in my state (damn Liquor controll board), Everclear produces 190proof clear grain alcohol that is sold in adjacent states.
While high proof liquor is dangerous because of potential over consumption, there is nothing wrong with it if the dosage is moderate.
I agree that this is not news, it is an attempt at product placement for advertizement hype in a "news" article.

I'm a safty conscious guy, but even my buddies treat my hooch with big eyes, because I'm not comercial. This mythic hootch and its "periloius" name will not help.

My guess is that the whiskey advertised in the "news" article will be crap.
It gets 10 years on oak, with a highly refined ethanol, the only taste it will have could be aquired from licking a bucket of pencil shavings.
Hey guys!!! Watch this.... OUCH!
