Slip weights

This could of very easily been posted in the off topic section.

I am looking for a mold to make cresent slip weights for fishing. They have quit making the slip weights that are very forgiving with the 40+ pound salmon I catch in the Canadian waters. I find a few at garage sales but they are very hard to come by. I am looking for a mold for 6, 8, & 12 oz sinkers.

I wish I would have know this about a month ago. I found a box of them somewhere really cheap. But had no use for them.

Are you planning your annual Rivers trip already? I didn't know that slip weight were made. Rivers Inlet is the only place I have ever used slip weights. They do work well there. My friend that took me fishing there made his own by cutting the berries off a 10 oz crescent and bending the loops perpendicular before threading his mainline through. A ball bearing swivel and a solid tie leader and we were good to go. It's also the only place I have ever used 10 ought hooks and giant herring. Damn the fish are big there.

MR, that is exactly where I use them and that is a possible option. I am thinking about taking a few in as we have a local foundry and see what they would charge to make the mold. Currently making 12 & 16 oz ball sinkers to put on my spreader bar for halibut fishing.

Hey Amigo, I did not get back to this thread until today. I have a halibut ball sinker mold that I will give you but it is probably the same as what you already have. Outdoor emporium used to sell crescent sinker molds. They may still sell them.

Here is the scoop but you are really going to owe me. I can cast an aluminum mother mold for you. (its actually pretty easy)

If you have one of the slip weight sinkers, bring it with you next week when you come down to work on your build. I have done a lot of aluminum casting and I have some 356 in the ladle ready to go. I can teach you how to make the master mold from high temp plaster. There are several set up options that are pretty easy.
