Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Old Colt Revolver

Post by Braz »

Are there any Colt revolver experts among us?

I have inherited a very nice Colt 38 but I am having trouble identifying exactly what I have. It is marked "Officers Model 38 - Heavy Barrel" but the serial number appears to make it a 1937 "Official Police" model.

I am not extremely knowledgeable on handguns, but I do know that these heavy barreled .38's are considered among the best shooting revolvers ever made. If you are into shooting you should take it to a gunsmith and get it checked out and tuned up. Not extremely valuable around $1,000 in perfect condition. But it is an excellent revolver.
Congrats on the good get.

Well I spent a good bit of time on the net, primarily the Colt Forum, and learned a few things. What I have is an "Officers Model 38" made in 1938. It is in pristine condition and has seen very little use, apparently. The bluing is good everywhere except for a very small line right at the end of the barrel. The grips are not the originals but instead are original Roper Grips - I'm told very desirable and worth $500-600 by themselves. This is a real prize. Can't wait to get it on the range.
