It wasn't that it was somewhere else it was still cheap. Have since read reviews and know who to go to instead.

Nothin like burnin down a hand rolled, and drinking a hand made brew, outside on a beautiful day in March with friends. This was probably the best roll to date, perfect draw, smoked forever, ring guage I like, very very tasty.

Cheers,

That looks great, Jimbo!

I was in Australia, the other week, and got to smoke some of the private selection from the owner of the Olivigna Estate. Cuban sigars. And he threw in some 21 year old Appleton rum from Jamaica. A treat!!!

The cigars we smoked were Cuban Punch Cigars, by the way. Don't remember which model though ...

Looks a 52 gauge. Nicely cool and slow burning. Punch is not quite my favourite. Nor the best value. For that you want Ramon allones.

My favorite cigar for every day is the Agio Gouden Oogst. Sumatra leaves, made in Holland:

I enjoyed watching that review. Those cigars are unlike anything I've seen thus far at my local cigars shop. Very nice!

so that stick from proof has inspired an old habit. dammit.

i'm checking out the import and taxation on whole leaf to canada to see if the gestapo border patrol here seizes and destroys or if they just over tax it.

any advise on the RYO whole leaf products? they all look yummy.

i'm thinking mild to medium with a nice nicaraguan wrap...suggestions? whats the filler/binder wrapper quantity ratio on the coles notes version of RYO? apparently so much to learn i may not have time to actually have them be a mitigating factor in my death if i do all the research myself.

i can make a chavette and rolled a couple million pounds of...cigarettes...and i watched the guy in seattle make one cigar..so how hard can this be?

I like em mild to medium, too. My typical blend is 3 seco leaves, 1 viso or ligero, and a half leaf each for binder and wrapper. Try the criollo 98 and the Ecuadorian Shade.

I made molds out of pvc pipe and used them for awhile. Now I use the newspaper press. I like it better. Look on youtube. There's a ton of videos. I'll try to link one too. Pectin mixed with water makes good glue.

I was at the cigar shop in new Orleans, I watched them for hours, wanting to know how and to try it myself. Even thought about fermenting some leaves. When I mention this to my wife, well I have too many hobbies

My best advice for rolling: Make pigtails. Life is too short to screw with triple caps.

great links and advise Scow69 thankyouverymuch.

i got 6 pounds of weed on the way, including the 2 you mentioned. a dominican binder and a ecudorian wrapper, a filler sampler with 3 varieties and hell...one other i don't remember!

i picked up a couple cedar planks today it seems like a nice wood to work with to make a 10 stick form. i'm gonna go simple and just make a press, wait an hour or so and open and turn 90 degrees and give them a bit more time...the extra router work to get the "pro style" form made up looks a bit too complex for the time available. apparently i was too cheap to spring the extra buck thirty to buy a pro dominican form from them...maybe next time!

i like the el-tubado turnbinaro method of business here (sorry not quite locked in on all the terminology yet) looks simple enough and logic tells me they will draw better than the Cuban bunch and tear and bunch and stuff and roll technique on so many videos.

Sounds like you're on your way. Nothing like a great home rolled cigar to compliment a glass of great home made whiskey. Life is good.

so i was watching some vids. here is this guy that is touting box pressed, the square shape allows air into your mouth to cool smoke and get a better flavour.
i was reading about how different acid levels in your mouth affect the flavours...drink coffee, drink coffee with creme d cacao liquor, when you have a smoke... that type of thing.
I've been staining wood all day. you know how to make a glass of top drawer whiskey taste like shit??? stain wood all day.

interesting how ths affects the palate a couple hours later.

oh yeah... BTW cedar planks don't make forms. wrong wood...way too soft. i'm maybe thinking square forms now for box pressed, be easier to make. shoulda spent the 130 on the dominican pro forms...dammit.

I like the box pressed thing too. Something cool about square cigars. I made just such a press, with molds slightly rectangular, 1/2 x 9/16, 9/16 x 5/8, etc. out of doug fir 2x10s. It worked pretty well. Haven't used it for some time. The way I've been rolling just lends itself better to the paper press. I tend to make presidents and torpedoes. I don't think it matters, but I read that box pressed sticks get that way after being rolled round and then packed very tightly into a rectangular box.
