a HD thanksgiving feast (Jedfest) 2014
I am going to start an off shoot on woodshed's meeting of the minds thread as to not over cluster it. I am thinking having a home distillers thanksgiving dinner. I am thinking the Saturday after thanksgiving the 29th of November. I will supply the turkey stuffing and taters. I ask that a covered dish is brought along if possible.
The one rule of the house is if you wanna drink (more than one drink and hour) you either have a designated driver or sleep here. Not trying to be an ass but it is better safe than sorry. The closest hotels are a half hour away.
Sherman's valley heritage days is in my neck of the woods. Web site is svheritagedays.com. I am roughly an hour west of Harrisburg PA.
Who all would be interested in getting together.

Jedneck I think it's great that you are willing to have this event, thank you. I wish that I lived closer as I would love to participate, unfortunely I live on the west coast and I don't think with my family responsibilities it would work this year. Wish I could, keep us posted. Thanks again for your generous offer

Re: a HD thanksgiving
Very generous, indeed. I often travel down I-76, turning south on I-70 @ breezewood to head down toward Haggerstown. It would be a very easy thing for me to miss that turn and continue on I-76 to your place. If I can plan one of my trips around that date, I will absolutely make it a point to stop by and share a little Homemade. I will give you a heads-up if and when I know I can make it. Thanks again for the offer, Jed!

Re: a HD thanksgiving
I'm about 4.5 hours away... Not sure at this point if we'd be able to make it that weekend or not... We'll see...
Re: a HD thanksgiving feast
Thanks Jed, I'll be in touch on this, gotta see whats goin on as we get closer, normally pretty busy weekend.

You are within my reach and thanks for the PM reply . That time of year this year may preclude my attendance . Settlin MIL's estate and cow feeding are going to limit my travels .
If you ain't the lead dog in the team , the scenery never changes . Ga Flatwoods made my avatar and I want to thank him for that .

Truckinbutch, you are always welcome at the dinner table. I understand the farmers life. Both grandparents were dairy farmers. And I have a mini farmette. Animals eat before I do. You know roughly where I'm at, if you are ever in this neck of the woods gimme a holler.

I, too, an about 4 hours from you. I am definitely down for a meet up. Like many that have responded, my concern would be that particular weekend, as I will have family coming to town.
Odin is reporting coming here to Jersey in a couple of months...
Either way, I will track this thread and if the in laws piss me good enough at the Dinner table on Thursday, perhaps I'll jump down, saddle a blazing.

I am open to changing the date. If we can come up with a date that suits the majority.

Re: a HD thanksgiving feast
Jed, I haven't looked at a map yet, but I'm sure that's probably reasonable driving distance for me. Like others have said, it might not be the best weekend for me. Another problem I have is that the SOH is completely non-supportive of the hobby, so if I do it, I'll probably be flying solo. I'll keep a watch on the thread to see how things pan out.

Jed, I would love to come but we have a family tradition of going to my dad's cabin in NH for thanksgiving weekend. If you change the date to any other weekend, you can most likely count me in. It's a 5 hour drive from here to Harrisburg... no problem.jedneck wrote:I am open to changing the date. If we can come up with a date that suits the majority.

Re: a HD thanksgiving feast
Would Halloween weekend suit more people. Its the 1st of November. The only other dates that would suit me are any weekend before Thanksgiving. After Thanksgiving I'm busier than a fruit fly on an open frementor.

Re: a HD thanksgiving feast
I'm thinking that if everybody that comes brings a gallon of wash, mash, must or strip run ( any home ferment with no hops). We could do a jed fest run and everybody gets a keepsake. What weekend we doin it.

Re: a HD thanksgiving feast
Okay, so this thread is falling down there. I thought it needed a revival. I'm sitting here making a run, a second generation UJ, thinking about what I want to bring. Either way, the wifey is in a good mood, decorating for fall, and thought I'd ask her what date was good for her (power move, wink). Anyways.
I would like to second Randy's nomination of November 15th. I am still flexible . But that works for me, the misses view of schedules 2 months from now, e.t.c.
How does that date sound?

Re: a HD thanksgiving feast
So far its looks like the 15th of November suits most. That is what date will be planned on. Here is what I'll be cooking on. Can't beat a cook stove for cooking a spread on.

Oh man, I really wish I could make it! My grandmother had a wood stove like that, and I remember the BEST Food always came cooked on that.

Re: a HD thanksgiving feast
Excellent! Want me to bring any gear Jed? I have a 26 gallon boiler that runs on 220v power if we're looking to do a run. I'll bring a whole rig if you want. All my rigs (& boilers) are tri-clamp so they can be mixed & matched pretty easily. Also, if we are going to do a community spirit, what should I make and strip for a contribution? If it's a whiskey, my part will be an AG.
Very exciting!
