Rememberance/Veterans Day
I would just like to make a post to remember all those who have, and continue to make sure we live freely. Both of my Grandfathers served in WWII. One wouldn't speak of it. The other only spoke of it one remembrance day a few years back, just several months before he passed. He spoke in a solemn manner. Telling of how his ship had been torpedoed twice, lucky enough to survive both but lost many friends. He spoke of how going into on bay or straight once of how the water turned to red from the amount of blood spilled already in the battle ahead. He did not appear sad, but seemed to be thinking of those he fought with, and those he lost. His story went on, but I'll end it here, as many of us have heard our share. It gave me a new, deeper respect, for all those who fought for our freedom.
Today, I will remember them. And will also think of those still protecting my country, and those from other countries protecting their own.
Thank you to all the vets past and present. Thank you to all those who serve.
I remember. Je me souviens

Thanks to all the veterans here. I did not serve and always regretted that. My oldest spent 8 years in the marines did 3 combat tours and is now out and happy. Here's a picture of him returning with his cousin.

Very touching picture! Good to see he made it back safe and sound. You tell him thank you for his service from across the border. America And Canada have always worked well and kicked ass together (with the exception of the whole white house incident...but you guys did steal our scepter...more like neighborly rivalry but worked it all out in the end).
Re: Rememberance/Veterans Day
Bigbob...you birth'd a Marine, you served.
My Dad was in Korea. I did 3 years at the end of Vietnam and I've never regretted it! Have a son at his sixth year in the Navy.
I had a draft card for two years before they got me, but I was still only twelve!

Dunno if any of you are familiar with "the highway of heroes" here in Canada. But for those that are, and even those that aren't, this is a great song by a Canadian band about it.

Saw on another site:
A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote
a blank check made payable to their country for an amount of 'up to and including my life.
That is honor, and there are way too many people in this
country who no longer understand it.
Thank you all past present and future fellow vets

So this is gonna sound weird. I never served but wish I did. I don't think there is a way anyone can appreciate what the guys and gals do on a daily to keep us free. As a younger kid I didn't appreciate what was given to me. Everyone needs to raise a glass to the active and inactive that lived and died to protect our country. Thanks you.DAD300 wrote:. I feel like a fumbling idiot trying to find the right words to say thank you. You all felt the fear, felt the pain, felt the sorrow of war. God bless you all.

Re: Rememberance/Veterans Day
Both of my parents were code-breakers ..Dad was Air Force Crypto with top-secret clearance and mom was a Sargent attache/custodian in the Women's Army Corps (WACS)..She was also Col. Carl Turner's clerk/typist..Turner went on to become a General..Dad went on to head up Westinghouse's TCC center, then the head of payroll ..All the while working on Top Secret nuclear sub projects which he would not talk anything about ..While not the best father,I learned to love and respect him for his love for our country ..My mom is still the best mom ever!
Thank You to all and God Bless America!
Thanks moosemilk for the thread, got me alittle emotional.
