My SIL recently took my daughter and family back to see his parents in Coloardo.. He asked me for a bottle of my good stuff to present to his father, Funny thing is that he is a state peace officer with a local jurisdiction. He truly believes that distilling for oneself is not a crime... (ignorance is bliss)...
I happen to know from conversations with his father that he only drinks a few beers occasionally. Like a 6 pack a month. and he never drinks hard liquor.... however my SIL thought I might want to send a quart to his father... What on earth would I want to do that for???? He has NO appreciation for "good" liquor so how could he judge mine??? Anyway I told my wonderful SIL "No" in no uncertain terms.... Hopefully his dad will visit at some time later and we can make that personal connection.....
The SIL is now in training to become a "State Trooper" at this point he "might" become aware of the legality of home distillation.... I think it would be hilarious if he makes it all the way through Trooper training and doesn't become aware of it....LOL...
If he does I will take some 1/2 copper and twist it up in his presence and I doubt if he would be the wiser....

My SO thought it be a nice idea to tell her whole family about my newfound hobby, even showed them the equipment and such.
This is after i told her not to tell anyone...v
Oh yeah, my brother in law is a Police man as well :?

The saving grace is that in Ireland its not really the same kind of attitude to distilling as in the states, the Police would not go out of their way to bust someone for distilling for their own consumption.
If they were in the house for some official reason they'd probably just take your stuff and give you a slap on the wrist, I'd still rather that anyone didn't know but sure what can you do.

Well, i didn't tell to many about my hobby.
Two of my friends that are like brothers for me know and my old man.
He just shook his head and said " Son...don't blow yourself up with that stuff".
I assured him i know what i am doing and the equipment is ok.
Brought a bottle for a barbeque evening, even my mother liked it despite she never drinks the hard stuff.
Guess what..it was empty before i left..

Ranger ric....having a state trooper in the family, might be a lucky coinsidence.
No one would suspect anyone in this family for moonshining.
Swedish Pride..yes..it seems like they take distilling really cool in Ireland.
As long one doesn't get a to big mouth, no one would care about it.. :shh:
It's like it is a tradition to make ones own whiskey (or is it whisky..?).

Forgive me lord, for I have sinned. As a new years resolution I said no more sugar. I just mixed up a uj ferment with oats cause my aged stock is getting low. I have nothing against uj, I love the stuff. I have sinned cause I broke my resolution. Gotta order enzymes to make up for my failures in malting.

Well in apreciation of your sin, and in honor of Big bobs friend, I pulled a sip from the last oats uj you made. I held it back in my decanter, and it just seemed right tonight.

Side note
I guess I'm going to hell, so what the hell.
I stop a gal from robbing a neighbor last year and in doing so, I told her that if I ever see her again I was going to turn my fuxking dogs lose on her. And we'll just see what happens. She said I was going to hell. :lolno:  :lolno:

I considered it a priveiidge when my ex and her mother assured me that they had front row seats in Heaven because they were BAC and I , being a heathen , was bound for Hell . Couldn't tolerate them in this life and I certainly do not want to spend Eternity with them .

Yup I got it bad. I built a thumper for my five gallon boiler over the weekend. That gives me I don't know how many diferrant ways I can set up. Plus I got a 25 gallon stripper to build when time allows.

I should have gone to bed 2 hours ago but instead I have been sorting fruit, pressing apples and now I'm thinking about making a Dimroth product condenser for my Muggles so I can see the condensing happen. I'm also constantly thinking about what I'm going to ferment or make next. Now I'm too tired to stay awake so I'll say goodnight.

One thing that tells me I'm hopelessly hooked is not being able to give it up after abysmal failures. I become obsessed with getting it right. We don't live on easy street here. Every new excursion you take into this hobby is like running a gauntlet of potential failure. The thrill is making it through without mortal wounds and sitting down to something that puts a smile on your face.

Very well put Cack! This hobby offers a lifetime of challenge and reward. If it were easy we'd have become bored and moved on long ago. Ive failed more times than I can count. There was a spell last winter when it seemed every batch went south. I got sick and tired of hauling many many gallons of bad mash off to the compost pile through deep snow. But here I am.

My wife just wrote this and sent it to me. I considered putting it in my fruit thread or the "you might be..." thread but decided maybe it belongs here because it shows how hooked I am. Anyway, here's what she wrote.
Mrs Cranky wrote:I saw my husband hunched over his phone obviously viewing pictures, from the sideways glance I got he looked like the quintessential porn addicts hunched over a screen satisfying some visual fetish lust
that brief glimpses of my husband left me a bit taken aback, so much so I turned around and inquired
"What are you looking at" I admit my tone might not have been so nice, thought swirled in my mind is there some dark perversion my husband is hiding from me, is someone sending him naked pictures, after all he does work with what is considered one of the most notoriously conqestable groups of women, unpleasant possibilities swirled through my mind.......
He looked up at me, his eyes had a wild quality and he thrust his phone in my direction proudly declaring
"LOOK what I am getting!"
it was a picture, in full detail, two full round heaving buckets of plums
...........ahhhh my marriage is safe.................its FRUIT PORN
I found out one of the guys I work with has a plum tree and today he picked me 2 buckets of plums and texted me pictures of them, which is what I was looking at.
