What's in the Mail? (NO Category Seems to Fit!)

Post by BaxtersDad »

What's coming in my mail...

A new Corona clone mill from Amazon for grinding corn (Prime, free two day shipping) ...

4 lbs of Distiller's Nutirents from Brewhaus (probably a lifetime supply, the shipping for 1 lb was as much as the product, the shipping for 4 lbs was barely more than for 1 lb)...

A pound of DADY yeast from Amazon (Prime, free two day shipping)...

The 8 oz amylase enzyme kit from Woodshed Distilling, actually 16 ounces, 8 ounces each of high temp and regular (thanks, Woodshed, for the prompt reply and invoice!)...

Love amazon/fleabay. And free shipping. Just used my Corona first time. Replaced handle with 1" metric bolt with lock nut. Fits my 1/2" drill. Worked great but messy. Probably turning fast 600rpm and grain pieces coming out the back shield. Will try covering the back with some tin foil next time. Enjoy.

Im waiting on a laser thermometer, misc triclamp fittings, and a sheet of ptfe. Amazon prime is a great deal if you use it frequently.

Most of our purchases are made online and are delivered to the house. Even when I buy material for work, it gets bought online or over the phone and then delivered to the job site. Time = Money. The only routine purchases that I make in person are off Craigslist.

As an avid online shopper I learned a few things. Shop the middle of the road pricing and always make sure there is a good buyer protection program with a hassle free return policy.

Hmm...laser thermometer! I have one of those for the hubs on my boat trailer. Just point it and push the button, it reads out the temp. How would one be used in stilling?

It won't be used for anything in the stillin area except for toying around. I just thought it was crazy that I don't own one already.

When a mechanical or electrical system has a compromised location, it overheats %90 of the time. This is how you find out before it fails.

2 new tires for my tractor and a storm door handle. Hmmmm, nothing to do with hooch, thats a real issue, need to rectify that. Oh wait, and a can of anti skid truck bed paint for my outside stairs up from the basement. Very important to avoid busting my ass again hauling spent grain up to the compost in wet weather.

A stave from a french red wine barrel. I will make sticks, toast them, soak them in sherry and give them in my malt for a nice second finishing.

How about using a laser thermometer to check the temp of a quart of hooch coming out of the microwave?

It does work well for taking ferment temps and is super accurate.

I got black stickers with the laser that you put on shiny metal, like a beer keg boiler or copper column. Apparently shiny things do not read accurately, hence the stickers.

Hah! Barrel aging is all about waiting. It's well worth it though.

Started working on a mash tun. Stainless recirc. fittings and a false bottom is on the way this week.

I'm waiting on a new SCR on a slow boat from China. It cracks me up that they give you a tracking number that won't update for a week straight.

I see you just emailed me the tracking number, so I assume one of those enzyme orders is on its way to me! The Corona clone arrived a day or two ago, when the enzymes get here, looking at a mash of 6 lbs malted barley crushed in my JSP MaltMill and 8 lbs of cracked corn ground coarse, which is all that fits in my 7 gallon Gott cooler mash tun with an antique Phil's Phalse Bottom, can't seem to find my homemade EZ Masher clone. My arm is aching just thinking about hand milling everything! My friend buillt a nice cabinet and motorized the brewery's MaltMill that we use for pilot batches, but I am not quite so handy. I am a litle reluctant to use a drill with either of these mills.

A pack of glass eyedroppers for the refractometers. They come with plastic ones, which I can't stand.

A second 5500w element for the keg (to run at 110 if I need to, or as a backup if I don't)

Not sure if you are running electric but if you are plug your drill into your controller. You can now control the rpm I cut mine down in half. Goes through 100 lbs in about 25 minutes. Rig up a stand and you don't even have to hold the drill.

Various brass garden hose fittings for my flute as well the 55 gallon barrel reservoir from fleabay as well as Amazon.

Stretching out 200 feet of hose & extension cord to pond as well as hooking up the pump got to be a drag(literally!). Now I will be able to run while sitting on the comfort of the deck.
