Puget Sound / San Juan Islands / Gulf Islands / etc.!

Post by BaxtersDad »

OK, for Bushman, so we don't hijack Daniel Boon's welcome thread, here we go!

This is about how much we love Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, the Gulf Islands, Princess Louisa Inlet, Desolation Sound, the Broughtons and the Inside Passage and beyond!

Nothing better than being on the water, we are very blessed to have these islands in our back yard.

Wow, some years back when I had my Tollycraft F/B Cruiser, I used to spend several weeks just cruising all over the San Juans and the Gulf Islands. I still belong to the local Yacht Club (+25 yrs) even though I sold my boat when I had cancer several years ago. Those trips were some of my best times and memories, and is one of the things I would say that I miss the most, especially in late summer or early fall. There's nothing like it, and you really can't fully describe it until you've seen it and experienced it first hand.

We regularly go clam digging with my children at their grandmother's beach house in Shelton. Fishing is great but we sold our boat, so it's charter fishing when we aren't at the river.

Both of my parents, my wife, and myself were all raised on islands as kids. Water slides off me like a duck's ass.

I don't know if I'd make that comparison for myself. Just sayin'. :?:

How many northwesterners are there here?!

I'm a boat guy too, moved down from Anchorage just to be near Puget Sound. Good launches for a 28 foot boat are kind of rare though.
Love to be on the water, looking forward to the coming summer - we've got trips planned to launch from Port Angles and meander over to Victoria BC.

Come on over....
Stop in at Big Bad John's for a pint and a bucket of peanuts. Love that place.

This thread already has me wanting our great weather back. Probably going to run some hay out to the island this weekend if it's not too windy. Fuel Maker if you want to get to a smaller town up the coast on the inside, Sidney is also a great town to visit on Vancouver Island.

In past years some of our best San Juan cruising was in the winter - bright and sunny, cold but relatively calm. The dock at Sucia is seldom crowded in the winter!

Bushman,

I have heard that DeVine winery has started offering spirits. Perhaps you can check them out and let me know how they are...
The still is not a liar. Mash and ferment quality is 99.9% of your performance.

There are lots of us here. I'm right off the sound and my drive to and from work is in sight of it most of the way. It's hard to pay attention to driving sometimes.
I love the sound but get sea sick too easy to do much on boats .

That's a crying shame, nothing else like being on the water with your feet up and a fishing pole in your hand. Or a beer.
