Tonights Moonshiners Episode

Post by MoonBreath »

Saw a preview of tonight's Moonshiners episode and noticed an excerpt of the Craft distillery explosion last April in Land Between The Lakes, Ky where one person was killed.
I will watch out of curiosity and interest.

You can watch an entire episode of that show and usually see about 15 seconds of something interesting or actually useful. Just don't nod off or you will miss it. Mostly BS for sure.
I will try to catch this one with the Silver Trails reference for sure.

I wasn't gonna rock any boats last week but I heard Jim-Tom tell the two guys they needed to run their rye thru a blender to pull more taste out and something about rice hulls. Does that hold any water?

Cracking any grian will help with release of flavors, and natural sugars if ran as an all grain. All the rice hull will do is help strain the beer more readily.

Used rice hulls in making wine, but that was only when pressing the grapes as it was supposed to help yield more liquid. Not sure their use beyond that...?

i can imagine walking in the woods and finding the scene of two knuckleheads that build the still under a low roof had a flash fire and the plastic tarps they had covering the whole scene melted onto their skins and shrink wrapped them in the little mud hole. i swear Darwin awards got heir name in the future... :moresarcasm:

rice hulls are used in wheat and rye to help separate the gelatinous slop and allow water to drain better.
malted barley has its hull still on it .

i cant resist watching though... kinda like how its hard to avoid rubbernecking at a car wreck.

and yes their quantity and that they sell..... makes it worse for us.....

Almost everyone I know felt like talking to me about this show at some point or another. The thing with that is people love this show. So when I say that I hate it and why, then they can often get personally offended!

I dont share my top shelf with that crowd. No sir e bob.

So for those who suffered through it, fascinating that the show blamed the Silver Trail explosion on a "valve accidentally left closed."

That sure doesn't jive with the fire marshall's report, or Spencer's for that matter. He's now suing Revenoor Stills.

I felt the episode was one of the better ones ...Really beats home the issue of Safety, no matter what scale you're working with ...I've done my best work over NG, but will be electric only asap.
Belmont Farm seems to be pretty safe, even with aged equipment ...A fella really has to stay on top of it or it could easily be your arse in a bind .

Yes I admit to watching this show, I like it, don't know why but I do
I like picking out the bull and always pausing it asking the Mrs. "did you see this or that" in the background or asking "what's wrong with this picture?" I love it when she answers something like "idiots, wash can't burn!!!"

What I noticed lately is that every new thing they show like revolutionizing moonshining with two boilers to one thumper/condenser or rapid aging for example I have read about here on HD first.(and it seems like you guys in the states see the episodes weeks before I do in Alberta) Leads me to wondering who among us is one of the actors or producers on that show? Why they keep something so critical as cuts out of the show and do they keep running into plastic just to keep everyone spouting off?

I know it's a small world and that someone here most likely has first hand experience with some component of that show, I would love to here some straight goods (understanding that straight up info might lift the veil on the legal moonshine marketing strategy)

I leaned up on one of the Jamie Davis trucks from that Highway Thru Hell show so I am sure someone has rubbed elbows with one of those guys.... By the way the truck really is red and chromed

That's like saying that Gunsmoke and Matt Dillon's high cap Colt have contributed to more gun control laws.

Moonshiners is either entertaining or not. It's the viewers choice.

#5 is like any interstate. if you want some motorcycling heaven take #3 from pincher creek alberta to hope BC. Then head north up #1 and west on 99. take a couple of days...too much to see and it's a workout. the yellow and black shatter signs that say "25kph" mean 25kph, the rest at your own risk but BC RCMP have vehicle siezing laws for "excessive" speed at their leisure, 40kph over will lose your ride.

on topic, i have watched all of 7 minutes of moonshiners. two boiler into one thump may be worth tuning in for another couple minutes!

On topic. I watch it every week, I know its crap stillin, and dont buy into any of it. Mark and Digger seem ok but havent done anything too groundbreaking. The wife knew I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut when they started making rum. Lol

Coquihalla just shortcuts from kamloops to hope, you used to have to take ole #1 (the trans Canada) which is a mostly two lane turny well-tunnelled hiway through the moutains. the other choice was 5A which is a low speed goat path thru whatever small towns.
It exists to move truck traffic from the ports in Van to cities in Alberta. it shaves about 2 hours off the drive from kamploops to hope as a high alpine road, mostly straight and fast (75mph)...but don't fall off the edge!

#3 called "the crowsnest" is about as scenic as highway gets... imho, i have found more exciting but shorter drives in USA but this highway just keeps giving, mile after mile. #1 has it's own appeals on the jaunt that coq relaced.

it's good entertainment if it wasn't so repetitive. I view the same as someone into football might watch the water boy or the longest yard. I can appreciate some of the cinematography and editing as well, some nice tav footage in there. Having said that I agree with MoonBreath, Chicos new still is a beauty. took a screen capture of it :
chicstill.tiff
chicstill.tiff (320.22 KiB) Viewed 3219 times

And Plain crazy: I have notice that too, something comes up on HD, then it's in the next season of moonshiners. I wonder who the double agent is?
