One Proud Daddy!

Post by Odin »

On this forum I may be known as Odin, but at home most people call me dad. I have a son, who is 18 years old, and three daughters. 16, 14 and 12.

Why I am proud? Well, they are great kids, all of them. Why I am proud today especially? Because our daughter Regina got selected into the Dutch national soccer team under 15!

Whoah! It took years of matches, trainings, one selection round and then another. And here she is now: elected goal keeper to the <15 years of age team!

I have always been very much into sports. I was a B+ level tennis player, boxed at B-amateur level too, could have made it as a marathon speed skater on ice, doing 40 second laps on 400 meter icerinks ... but with her it is not about "could have beens" or "maybes". She just does it. And gets the job done.

I am so darn proud of her!

Regards, Odin.

Congratulations Odin, I fully realize how much Time and Money you have invested in your children. Especially the little lady goalkeeper. If one doesn't spend time with their children you will never get another chance....plus this quality time spent with them helps insure their success in life. They need to be taught to Work hard and Play hard.
I have 3 sons and none of their asses are alayin home on the couch. They are all 3 Hard, Hi Speed fine men.

Congrats to you! And I think that's where the challenge is. Where do we leave them be themselves ... and where we interfere to up the pace. I learned, at least with my kids, that its them that decide on the pace. I am just there to facilitate them in whatever choice they make.

I believe the best lesson in life:
Never give a child what he wants, rather....teach him what he should want.
Controversial by some, understood by others.
Being the best you can be at something is good.

Great, proud as you should be! Soccer is a real commitment time wise sport at least where I live parents are buying motor homes to hall their kids to games all over the state.

Thanks!

We are like a year further now, with Regina soon turning 15. She is still keeping for the Dutch women under 15, but there are some changes ahead. For the good. First, it looks like she will start to live in Amsterdam at the Dutch Top Sport Institute, so she can focus on sports each and every day. In combination with a special schooling program, so she can combine the two trainings a day with getting her high school diploma. It would mean she leaves us and lives over there at least during the week.

And her new personal goal keeper trainer asked me if Ajax, one of the Netherlands leading football club (soccer, I think many over at your end of the pond call it), could reach out to her. So the chance becomes real that she may be playing for a top professional team soon as well.

Wow.
