Distilling Partner

Post by The flint stones »

Just thought I'd post a pic of my partner she's waiting on a squirrel, it was a good day today to catch up.

Our neighbor down our street had 2 mastiffs, they used to scare the heck out of me riding bikes by them, later learned they were the nicest dogs ever! Very intimidating as a youngster!

We take ours camping with us. They are usually the talk of the campground. Always have to make lots of stops for attention. Close to 350 lbs between the two of them. Gentle giants.

Here's my still partner, he's a golden doodle and a total cargo cultist. He will do anything if he thinks it will make him look like a human. If you tell him to sit, he finds a chair and he sits in it.

I do the same thing with my 10 year old! He is starting to catch on though. Last weekend he asked why my beer is always clear and the beer we get at the store is brown.

Rickos, apple cider vinegar in a cup with a small funnel on top cures that problem. Add a couple drops of dawn diswashing soap to the vinegar. Years ago we had a " hobby still" in the swamp and where our mash had accidentally spilled we had a huge fruit fly " I call em nasty flies" problem. Someone told us about the apple cider vinegar funnel truck and presto problem solved.

Hummingbirds, bees and as you already know fruit flies can smell mash from. Miles away! Glad no bears live close by. I can't count the times one of those hummingbirds flew into the site and I've learned to hate bees.

Who’s your distilling partner?

Post by JellybeanCorncob »

This hobby is pretty solitary. Hours mashing then distilling. It can get lonely working so many hours trying to produce a good spirit. Luckily I have my distilling buddy “Trixie”. She’s always near by and let’s me know if anybody is coming to the house. She’s my distilling buddy.
Do you have someone that is happy to hang out and keep you company during those long hours sitting in front of the still?

Mines seven and 16. They know what they know... hell the littlest helps make cuts by smell. The older one has got me further into mead making. He's totally fascinated by that. I also have a pack of pit bulls that "stand guard" and by stand guard I mean they sleep by the still.
