What do you do with all your surplus alcohol?

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Nice new 10-liter barrel (medium char) arrived last night. That's getting my bourbon.

Fits nicely next to the two 3-liter Odin's Whiskey barrels
..and a 5-liter full of rum. All medium chars.

Don't have room yet for bigger barrels, but surplus management is nonetheless underway.

By the way. On Amazon there is a place called 'Sofia's Findings' for barrels.
Inexpensive, and out of the 4 I've bought, nary a one has leaked beyond initial soak.
[I've no affiliation with them. Just a pleased customer.]

Full barrels:
Honey Bear Bourbon: 10-liter
Odin's Cornflake Whiskey: two 3-liters
Rum: 5-liter
Rye: 5-liter
(plus about 2 liters each jarred for sampling/topping off)
---------
Vodka: 10.5-liters jarred white

What's next?
Recent spate of new members into brandy has me curious.
Odin has a nice brandy write-up here.

Cover me. I'm going to Brandy Town.

It's not surplus, it's aging.
Best get an other batch on the go so you don't get behind

Everytime I make or bottle a batch I think, "wow, thats a lot, I'm set for life!". Nope, just a few months later I'm in disbelief I could've gone through 5 gallons that quickly.

I deal with most of my surplus by leaving bottles behind. Going to friends for dinner, leave a bottle. Going camping, everyone takes something home. Festival, open bar. Actually a great way to have fun is to stumble around a festival lookin for strangers to help you empty your jar. Around here theres always crap commercial shine all over the festivals, pretty funny to see reactions to that first sip of something well crafted. Everybody pretends to like shine because of the kitsch factor, but most of what they get is piss. Of course everyone asks if you make it, which you laugh at, "nope, got it from the old guy headed out while I was headed in, he musta sold out quick!"

Surplus booze? I reckon thats kinda like leftover crack...

Surplus? :?:
I was hoping I could make enough shine last summer to help me through the winter. I got about 20 l 80 %ABV, but there is a nasty off taste. I hope I can fix that.

I'm not producing it fast enough, yet. Planning on stepping up to larger fermentations, doing stripping runs and a bigger spirit run to build stock.

Mind you, I have been experimenting with flavouring and have sent out some smallish quantities to a few trusted friends and family for their opinions, so it isn't like I have hoarded every drop produced so far either.

There's no such thing as surplus alcohol

So you have yeast make sugar into alcohol, then you remove the surplus of water from it to keep your 70 year old tractor happy?
You are a good man, shadylane!

I don't have much surplus. I started out making a run every second weekend and had no idea what I was gonna do with it all. Slowed down alot. Now I'm lucky to get in 7-8 runs a year, but I still have plenty to drink. I like drinking some commercial stuff too (market research haha!) So that helps, along with the fact that every time I look my father in law has emptied the discreet "homemade" bottle lol

That's a great compliment when the father-in-law is always empty, isn't it?
Mine is a strict Jameson, Chivas, and whatever-I-give-him consumer. Feels like you've arrived at quality.

Yes sir it's a good feeling! I like my ujsm and rum, but I'm a bourbon lover so I think I'm gonna need to go AG to find something I'm in love with.

Lately I have have made more booze than I can drink.

I got the fever lol

I have been giving pint jars away to locals for the hell of it.

If i meet a good ol country boy at the store who is polite and opens the door for a lady...i run out of the store and ask if he drinks.

If i get a yes I hand him a jar....

I do this on several levels.

I enjoy the hobby so much it is more rewarding the smiles and thanks I get than any money can give...

I dont even try to swap numbers or take payment as many want to do....i just want to spread the love I put into my hearts. :moresarcasm:

I really won't even consider anything as surplus until my barrels are ripe for draining. That's close to a year for most of it.
I'd love to have enough to where some just sits in a barrel for a couple of years.

There's just too much fun in making new stuff to even think of slowing down or worrying about "too much."
And until my barrels are ready, I'm enjoying the sh!t out of Odin's Gin!
