Europe Trip

Post by Bushman »

I am leaving on Tuesday for a little over a month to Europe. First week will be in Norway with my wife's cousins then off to several cities in Poland. From Poland will be traveling to Northern Germany and then cruise the Baltic States. Will tour an old distillery in Estonia. After the cruise will rent a car and head to Wurzburg and stay with friends. Will try to get on the forum as often as possible. Anyone have suggestions for things to see or do in Kraków, Warsaw, and Gdansk.

Bushman - I feel for you, not one reply. If you are ever coming in the direction of Ireland make sure to drop me an email.

Sorry, no knowledge of those places but it sounds like you have a great trip in store. Travel safe. Otis

So jealous. We’ve been to England, Italy, Austria and Holland, but I’d really prefer the Northern European places you’re headed.

Wow just woke up and unlike me, I slept for 12 hours. Maybe that will get me used to the 9 hour time difference.

Hope you get to meet up with a few distillers while on holiday Bushy .....I had an absolute ball meeting those that I did on my trip to the USA, a common interest can lead to some very good friendships

Well, I am not near one of your stops. I have a nice sister in Norway, but she and her wife are teachers and not really interested in distilling.

a good Polish friend of mine years ago said there is a city under Krakow carved from salt and it is a must see and something about the Tomb of king Stanislaus rings a bell as something worth seeing.

Just toured the salt mines ( incredible) and Aushwitz. This is the second concentration camp I have been too. May we never forget the past. On a lighter note I got talking with our driver and he said he makes a drink by combining vodka, Brandy, and honey and letting it set for a while. I didn't take the conversation any further but he was happy with his results.

Today is my last day in Kraków and my wife and I will be leaving her cousins as they fly home to Norway and we take the train to Warsaw for 2 days then on to Gdansk before heading to Germany.

Here I am home with a nine hour time zone change up at 1:30 in the morning. Wonder when my internal clock will get back to normal.

Bushman, I'm envious of your trip.

Auschwitz is on my bucket list --so to speak.
The horror and inhumanity in its photographs and stories.
To be standing where, given some 70-odd years ago, death was cruelly inflicted.
And to know that most of the world garnered the bravery and strength to end it.

This is my second concentration camp I have visited in Europe. As hard as it s to visit and learn it is important that we understand our history so we do not allow it to happen again.

That's a beautiful view!

One day I hope to visit Europe and spend some time there not just a week.

Glad you're home safely and getting used to the time difference again.

andyz wrote:sounds great! I've just returned from my trip to Germany. I found first class tickets for sale to Frankfurt and decided to spend a few days there. I like Europe, but I've never been there more than one week. Next time I want to spend at least two weeks in European countries.
We have too many family and friends that expect us to visit. Not always relaxing as we fit a lot of travel while in Europe. This I believe was our shortest trip at 5 weeks. Usually 6-8 weeks but it always seems like I am ready to come home at the end of each trip. My wife and I usually go every 3 years.
