Little or nothing to do with distillation.

WalMart Sugar

Post by Appalachia-Shiner »

Sugar 25# Bag at WalMart is $8.78 a bag.
I can't believe it is that cheap....I have seen it for nearly $1 a pound a few years ago. And with the Hurricanes this year, the price could go up significantly.

Nice, I was thinking mine usually runs $.50 / pound. I'll have to check my local prices, thanks.

That's interesting gents, so what is that ? 34c /lb ? = 75c /kg.

in uk, Farm Foods are doing sugar £0.50 / Kg whilst Lidl seem to be "best of the rest" at 59p /kg.. A kg is 2.2 lb, so it seems sugar is a little cheaper over here than in US. But then our exchange rate has gone a bit wierd recently.

I have been buying my sugar at either Kroger or Aldi in 4# bags.
Last time I checked the 25# or 10# bag at Wal-Mart it was more expensive per pound than the 4# bag.
At $8.78/25# it is about 10-15 cents per 4# cheaper.
Might have to pick up a couple of 25# bags.
We have about 200# in 4# bags, around 50 bags. Not sure exactly how many, about 2 weeks ago I counted 52....
but have made a couple of Apple Pies, some Apple Butter and we needed sugar for coffee too. Not sure if we have opened 2 or 3 since I counted.

My super walmart has it for 14.14 but the Walmart neighborhood market has it for 9.18. Can't understand the price difference between the 2. It has been like that for the last few weeks

Sugar in the USA is artificially kept high to protect domestic producers. We pay hundreds of dollars more per capita each year than much of the rest of the world.

It is why Americans are so skinny.......

I just bought the same stuff a few days ago.. can't remember the exact price but it was cheap enough for me to throw it in the cart.. wife just looked at me and rolled her eyes..

(Newb comment;) "guy recently told me don't use cheap sugar, get the good stuff... you can tell the difference in the taste..." is this fact or myth?

It's cobblers

Use cheap white, expensive white - 9 times out of ten the packets are the same - Use beet sugar, use cane sugar - the output is the same.

I agree. The funny thing is it comes from the same place!

Now if it's cane sugar compared to granular sugar that's different but I would be willing to bet all of that granular white sugar we are buying comes from the same manufacturer.

It's been proven many times over that they quote value brand quote is the same company that makes the high-end brand food

Sure the output is the same but, what about the flavors?, would you drink the crap that comes from sugar beets?

They're exactly the same - no difference whatever in the refined versions - 'cept the cane stuff is imported :)

I buy whichever is cheapest.

Went to Walmart today and bought 50 lbs for 15.00$

I didn't want to be seen as moonshiner so I settled on 2 for now.
Funny thing is that brown sugar has went up 30c from 1.98 to 2.28 per 2lb bag
