Racing season's over...waaaa......

Post by goinbroke2 »

So this was the sixth and final year of my kid in the junior dragster and he went out with a blast!
Two weekends ago they had the top 3 drivers from each category from the local 4 tracks compete in a "team race" to see which track would win. Then because Aug was rained out and they had extra sponsor money left, they had a "bracket bash". Sunday was the regular race.
So, three races and the kid placed 3rd,1st, 1st!!!
For a $25 in entry fee's he walked out with $350 plus a huge trophy, plaque and a certificate. He also had a $25 bounty put on his head for the last race of the year.

Last weekend, final race of the year and because he was working at the hospital most of the summer he couldn't be in the points race. So...he decided (without any of my influence, I found out later) to be a spoiler for his buddy who was in 4th place. He goes after the guys in 1st and 2nd and takes them out Saturday. When he runs his friend in the semi's he redlights.(so his friend got the $25 bounty) On Sunday he takes out person in 2nd and 3rd and then in the semi's "mis judged the finish line" and gave the stripe back to his buddy. So his friend goes to the finals both days and wins one of them, jumps from 4th to either 2nd or 1st in points for the year. I told him it was legal but a shitty thing to do. Regardless, we'll find out in a couple more days how his buddy made out.

So, the dragsters now up for sale and we're looking for a first car for him that he can drag race too. Mustangs/etc are out due to insurance so we're looking at a ranger and dropping in a 302. (he asked for a 460 I have in the garage with about 550hp but 16 year old and a big block in a ranger? ummm, yeah...NO! LOL)

Bottom line is, I should be around here a bit more now, for the winter anyway. Oh, and a new malting house opened in the valley here, $75.00 for 55lb's of malted barley/rye/corn etc! Yay! Already made intro's and stuff and will be buying a bag or too in the very short future.
Numerous 57L kegs, some propane, one 220v electric with stilldragon controller. Keggle for all-Grain, two pot still tops for whisky, a 3" reflux with deflag for vodka. Coming up, a 4" perf plate column. Life is short, make whisky and drag race!

Thanks!
Yeah my cousins built several for the street and a couple for the track, they are lighter and have a lower centre of gravity than a mustang, pretty funny when you see a 2500# ranger smoking mustangs and Camaros around town. Lol.

No it will be small block until he has some responsibility. He can drive anything, I'm concerned when I'm not watching. I've hammered the "race on the track not the street or you lose driving" forever and he's on board....but when guys are watching and dads not around...

On another note, picked up a 2011 focus for my oldest last night, 80,000km's on it for $5000. Nice car and he's happy. (he's not into cars at all, he liked it because its pretty red and has sync for his phone  )

Oh, and at the tracks around here there are a dozen or more rangers and s-10's, most with slapper bars and leaves, a couple with ladder bars and only one with a 4 link.

Oh come one, what could go wrong? My first car at 15 was a 1948 Ford F1 with a 429, a lot of fun... Okay yeah, on second thought I got into a lot of trouble. :shh:

Full size trucks were a lot more fun than the little ones, especially the older ones that weighed more. I miss those days, haven't done any hotrodding cars for well over a decade. My drag racing on weekends is now on bikes, currently my '03 Honda CBR1100XX
People say that I'm a bad influence. I say the world's already f#cked -- I'm just adding to it.

Well crap, just found out IHRA is going all bracket racing and has cancelled the Stock and Super Stock classes....dang, I have been piecing together an engine to put in my mustang for M/CM. I guess those GT40P heads and roller block will be bracket engine parts now....AARRRGGG!!!

That sucks. I guess you guys have to be "inclusive" and not discriminate against those who can't build a state of the art system. Maybe I should join and get a 36 HP VW bug. If I can be consistent vs my dial in, I could beat 600 HP corvettes.

Well, there's no VW's in the classification guide so that's out, but there are plenty of other slow combo's. It's still a bracket race until you race someone in your class, then it's heads up. A lot of guys play the ladder when qualifying to stay away from faster cars or hunt for slower cars. My only option now is to change the nose on my 83gt mustang to a 79 and go with a 302 2bbl as it's only rated by NHRA at 134hp. Very slow et, but (comparatively) very quick in it's class. Running a full second under the index is way easier than 80% of the other combo's out there.

I love underdogs myself, seen many U/SA wagons take out hemi's/vettes/cobra jets. A guy I know Harry Dolittle runs an escort with a big "underdog" cartoon character on the side, goes rounds and races for the same prize as the cobra jets but has less in his whole car than a set of race prepped CJ heads! Funny watching a 8 second car sit on the line and then chase down a 17 second car. Lol!
