How'd you choose your screen name?
I was looking up distilling methods.
As it will be, got completely off-search and somehow found myself looking at 17th-century still life paintings.
Slapped myself. Got back on track and found HD. Incorporated the double-meaning 'Still' Life and there it is.

So you're using pics of his still while pretending to still, and using his name? Lol. Does he know?Kareltje wrote:I used it as an alias already for some time and my distiller friends name is Karel.
For me, I was a Floyd fan, looking for a name with shine in it. Thought about DarkSideoftheMoonshine, but it was 2 letters too long. For the best. The chorus (in my sig.) to SCD could all be about the hobby, if you read enough here
"Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond."

What I have been called by friend ad foes alike, since I was a teenager. It spawned from a run in with the cops but thats another story.
When I was a boy, I prayed for a bicycle. I soon learned G~d doesn't work like this so I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness.

Thanks to him I now have the still he build, but I don't think I posted a picture of it. He traced it and helped me buy it.
I posted some pics, but his still is not one of them.
My alias was originally about Charlemagne or the Habsburg king Charles V, King of Austria and Spain, reigned from 1500. My friend Karel I meeted later.
You thought about this: I show this button at every funeral I attend. For me, I was a Floyd fan, looking for a name with shine in it. But now that you bring it up: I want to make clear: I do not advocate lying, but I strongly advise to think for yourself and check everything you hear, see or read! CHECK! DO NOT BELIEVE!
And on topic: how did you choose your screen name?
Re: How'd you choose your screen name?
i got a bad memory for this type of thing, so i often use acronyms for the site i'm using...in this case = HDKareltje wrote:HDNB wrote:fat fingers, bad memory and worse eyesight.
The NP was for my ranch's name... where i do this little hobby... = HDNP
My fat fingers must have hit the "B" beside the "N"....and the "P" often sticks on my keyboard (w too for that matter)
so when my shitty eyesight saw HDNB, it looked like HDNP, so i went ahead with the registration...and the rest is history.
never, ever thought i'd be here this long...or at all really.... since i only registered to see if there was hidden forums only available to members, which there isn't so at the time i thought i wasted the time registering.
and i'm still here...
it would be nice to have a cool handle like prairie piss or uncle jesse...i've thought about asking on a thread for y'all to come up with something for me since i'm not very creative, but i guess i ain't that vain or alternatively I don't really want to know what y'all call me when i'm not around.
I might add that i used an acronym because i read a lot of Larry's stuff and liked it. (Larry, with the copper still.)
oh yeah...that... and "blackdog" was used by some dick that only ever posted once, so i could not honour my Black lab still hand with that one.
I finally quit drinking for good.

Re: How'd you choose your screen name?
So, my college room mate and I were munchy after a night of hard partying. I found him eating something and asked "What are you eating?" He shoved his hand and my face and explained " Cheese on Wheat MF!" Dont know what it was but that was the stupidest sounding thing I had ever heard at that moment and cracked up. Thinking it so funny when ever someone had some stupid crap to say after that, we would react to their conversation by exclaiming "Cheese on Wheat!" and walk away leaving them befuddled.
Cheese on Wheat....

Re: How'd you choose your screen name?
I'm an old guy and a long time all grain beer brewer. I would tell my home brew buddies that I was "stirrin' the pot" when I planned a brew day. It was a colloquial jargon for us...as "brew day".
So, when I came here, I appended "still" to it, as if I am "still stirring the pot", i.e., brewing, only with an additional intent. It fit my nature, and on top of that, it eludes to the the "love affair" for distillation...as in still_stirrin'.
I've created labels which highlight this as well, produced by still_stirrin distillations.
-> My avatar is imprinted as a watermark on the labels.
-> And my "brand" is In Your Eye, an old-school toast for a....moon shot...a contraction of "shot of moonshine".
-> My bourbon is named, Cask No. 1, and my gin is named, Prohibition Gin, eluding to the bathtub gins of the '30's, when prohibition outlawed our spirits. I don't produce other spirits with regularity, so I don't have other labels made yet.
-> As a note, I have "tentatively" labelled my rum as, Hook's Rum. But that is subject to change if I settle in on a recipe and process to produce it with regularity, which I haven't as of yet.
As you can see, the names are all planned with forethought. They highlight their meaning (to me, at least). It's all a part of my signature.
ss
p.s. - my signature is always lowercase ss, not upper case. Scuba Stiller already uses the capitals, and for me...a pair of capital S's is too familiar as a supremacist logo.

Michigan Corn Husker.
Like HDNB I just came up with something on the fly to join up and see what's what.
Never been in another forum and didn't understand any of it. But I was just starting out browsing the Internet for info and I did love the feel of freshly shelled corn in a bucket. It is a testament to the site and more so to the members who populate it that I still lice you all so much!
I guess more accurately would have been CornSheller or Cooker but it is what it is.
And MCH it shall remain.
