Sure!
Yeast consumes sugar (and added nutrients) and expels alcohol.
That sugar can come from grain like corn, or from a sack from the grocer.
Or am I misinterpreting your question?

To me Moonshine and white lightnin' is any alcohol produced from a clandestine still, however the image congered up by folks when you use those terms is, a hillbilly in ragged overalls out in the woods, with a couple 55gal drums of corn mash and a pot still??? what the heck is mountain dew sodie pop???...

Every once in a while I throw on some overalls and distill in my bare feet.
The tile floor and finished walls are not quite the bucolic backdrop of Appalachia,
but I dare to call my spout-fresh drops "moonshine" and "white lightnin'" if only to appease my hobbyist ego
or to impress a friend.

Even though mountain dew name was taken from moonshiner vernacular, the Hillbilly image is there...

I would be happy to take a sip or two of a hillbilly in a ragged pair of overalls shine. After all thats where it all began.
