How long is mash good for after opening
Hello all,
I have a question? I was stilling last night and it got really late. Will my mash still be good in the morning so I can continue cooking?

The mash should be ok, but if there are any solids in the boiler, they may burn on when you restart, so give it a good shake up to get them back into suspension.

Re: How long is mash good for after opening
Was it cloudy right away? Or just at the end of the run? Is this a stripping run or spirit run?
My stripping runs get pretty cloudy at the end when I run deep. Tails will do that. If it started out as cloudy, then it's possible you puked, but you would've likely known that right away (if you were watching your still.)

This is this annoying problem, when members post here with their smartphones one sentence between reading twitter, making lunch, go to work and call someone.ShineRunner wrote:Was it cloudy right away? Or just at the end of the run? Is this a stripping run or spirit run?

Are we supposed to guess what type of still you were running, how you ran it, the abv, etc. then give you an intelligent answer?
Re: How long is mash good for after opening
Are used a 6 quart homemade still. I ran the temperatures from 170 to 205°. The same way I ran it last night.

Re: How long is mash good for after opening
The temperatures in your still are meaningless as they are dependent on where they are taken. You shouldn't be running using them anyway, abv and flow rate are more important.
My pot still stripping runs always finish cloudy, there is nothing wrong with that. It gets cleaned up in the spirit run.

If you're trying to ask us something - please do ASK ! - Please don't just say "it's cloudy" as though we are supposed to make everything all right for you.Gqgwat7 wrote:Are used a 6 quart homemade still. I ran the temperatures from 170 to 205°. The same way I ran it last night.

Well I'm new at this this is my first time cooking. So my question is why could've been like that? And I don't know what all the abbreviations are. Sorry

Re: How long is mash good for after opening
As for my flow rate. It will drip for a little bit then a constant stream and then it will start dripping again. Then it will stop and then pick up again

Re: How long is mash good for after opening
Sounds like you need to step back and do more learning and less stilling.
A 6 quart still is very small and it will take a lot to learn how to make cuts and run it properly..
What are you using for heat source? Sounds like it's cycling and you're getting pulsating output. Doesn't necessarily matter on a stripping run (look it up), but probably should just be running faster if it is a strip.
We need to know more in order to help. What was your "mash"? What was the ABV when you shut it down last night? What was the ABV when you shut it down today?

Gqgwat7, you have so little knowledge right now you can't even ask proper questions because you have no clue what's going on... Honest, blunt, and to the point... You're wasting everyones time because YOU haven't put forth enough effort to learn what you need to know before you need to know it... Go forth and do ample research and you'll have far less questions that you should already know the answers to before firing up your still for the first time... We have no problem helping you once you've helped yourself by doing what we consider mandatory research... Take full advantage of the thousands of years of experience by reading, not by posting short cryptic phrases and expecting miracles...

Do yourself a favor and quit watching Youtube videos for your recipes. The guy I suspect you're watching doesn't know his ass from his elbow.Gqgwat7 wrote:My mash consisted of 1 pound of dried up fruit, 4 pounds of sugar, 4 pounds of corn meal, and yeast

Dried fruit 9depending on type0 is coated in wax - hence I suspect the "cloud".
