Can't believe the cost of postage from USA!

Postby adama_bill » Wed Oct 21, 2009 1:57 pm

I tried to order some Root Beer extract, silicon tube and a few gaskets from moreflavor.com.
My bill was $50 ~ they wanted more than $50 for the mail out!

I did an experiment by trying to buy four 2" EPDM Tri-Clamp Gaskets ($4.20 total).
MoreBeer is expecting me to pay $29.15 postage ~ does anyone seriously think this reflects the actual cost?

I used to think Wall Street was the place for price gouging until now.

Wow!!! That does seem very expensive. Did you ask if there was a mistake? I've bought lots of equipment and supplies from Morebeer and they have always bent over backwards to help me out and make sure I was happy.

I have just mailed a parrots beak to a forum member in New Jersey, quite a large box, the cost to mail from Australia was $35.

If you know the aproximate weight and size, go onto the USPS website, you can get a shipping cost there, you will know then if they are trying to dud you.

Did you ask if there was a mistake?

I emailed info@moreflavor . . . . told them much the same as I've written here.
I also sent an email to the first person I contacted (they had been super polite in their written language when answering my earlier question) ~ I asked this person if it was a mistake (?) am yet to get a reply - I don't expect one.

How hard can it be to drop some gaskets into an envelope with a stamp?
If they find a way to send the gaskets for a reasonable price I'll be sure to post that info here.

It's been a while since I bought a DVD on Amazon but I sure don't remember being charged anything like what moreflavor.com is asking.

Give this mob a try. They have the clamps and gaskets you need. Will work out cheaper than us postage costs.

Well I got a reply; it started with "Dear Sir/Madame'

You see it started wrong right at the top.
Here i am asking for some 2inch seals to be dropped into an envelope and posted ~ it requires minimal application IMHO.
The store clerk writing the reply can't even tell that I'm MALE (not US MALE granted) so what hope do THEY have to innovate their customer service = none.
Oh well . . . . through all this I've become better informed . . . . think I'll sick to local procurement from now on . . . . then again if i can recruit a "stillin' mule" :esmile:

Final update.
I found an engineering place about an hours drive from me; gave them my credit card details and they added $5 for popping them into an envelope and posting them :)
(People on this forum have sent me some good leads on where to get hardware . . . I'm very greatful for this help . . . it seems every cloud has a silver lining after all).
