Free 5gal HDPE plastic buckets

Post by K830106 »

So I work at a sushi bar and one thing we go through a lot of is soy sauce. It usually comes in 5 gal HDPE plastic buckets that are great for fermenting that usually get thrown away! They come with a lid that has a pour spout that you can cut out and fit a large plug and air gap. You need to wash out the bucket really well to get rid of the soy sauce smell. Ordinarily those buckets sell for as much as $25. Talk to your local sushi bar and see if you can get you some!

Bakery's have these also, they typically contain frosting or cream filling or stuff like that.

Also if you have a ice cream maker in your area they have them. I buy my 5 gal buckets from a local maker for $1. And are in great shape. Though I am making the switch to 20 gallon barrels as I am wanting to make more.

Wow never thought of that. Here are the ones I am prob going to go get, 20 gallon style 2 for $25 not too bad a deal, going to see if they will do 4 for $40. Could be much better than my 5 gal that I can only do about 4 gallons in. I figure use 2-3 at a time a few days apart for mash/fermenting buckets and another for corn or sugar storage.

Try doing a search on Craig's List. I haven't bought any yet but I did locate a source in my area that way.

Craigslist. I've got a guy I met from there I buy mine from. If your local to Mooresville Nc I can hook u up.I have 3 with mashes going in them. And another sitting to the side I plan on maybe using for sugar storage. Either that or I plan on putting used motor oil and gasoline mixture for black diesel fuel in my truck.
