Another trick I use, is to only 2/3rds fill the aging jugs to allow for some oxygen in the headspace. This is to compensate for the impermeability of the glass compared to a barrel.
If I must fill an aging jug, I don't jam the cork in so tight that it can't 'breath' with temperature changes, sometimes putting cotton cloth over the neck before inserting the cork. If you do this, mark the level so that you can keep an eye on losses.
