Is it better in a flat bottom or does it even matter. I have both but my conical is twice the size so would be easier. Want to try my first on grain ferment.

You won't be dumping the cone with the grain in there. But if you can adjust your racking arm to liquid level, you could transfer the clear liquid then scoop the grain into a bag and squeeze. There isn't really a downside to the conical.

Well I did it. 100% malt wheat on grain. The racking arm is too short to get over the grain so I will be siphoning and scooping. I did add to the learning curve and did open ferment for the first day. That was interesting to see. I put the lid on the next day just to keep stuff out. I am also trying a ngs yeast from White star as my goal is to see if I can get vodka from this. If not I can put oak in it. Very good so far. Day three today and still bubbling away.
