Another confirmation question please

Post by Blarney Stoned »

Read a shitton of info in Cranky's, Jimbo's as well as other's threads but don't recall off the top of my head what size wire is correct to use from the pot to the SSR..

Sorry if I'm a pest.

It is only a very small signal so any 1mm standard electrical (insulated) cable should do it.

I've used speaker wire (18 gauge), solid copper jumper wire, and telephone wire (22 - 24 gauge) to connect the potentiometers in the controllers I've built...

Thanks again, gents. I was thinking the same thing based on looking at the pictures of the builds posted. Not very scientific on my part but couldn't find any info on wire size. which is kind of strange. Ordered the following:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/201113222022?_trksid" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

This time next week my boiler will be juiced rather than gassed after many, many years of fun.

Oh, no...!!! That's probably the worst relay you could have chosen, IMHO... There is a current topic where a member is having problems with a controller build using that goofy-footed relay... A simple resistance controlled relay with potentiometer would be simpler, requiring less wiring... Most just have one of the mains entering and exiting and two terminals for the pot to attach to... This one uses both mains and a pot...

My preference would be a PSR-25 or PSR-40... They used to be dirt cheap... Crydom is another brand...

Or AC 24-380V SSR-25VA 25A Solid State Relay Resistance Regulator w Heat Sink which is currently $8.92 with heat sink and free shipping... Just add a 500K Ohm 2W potentiometer...

That unit is DC voltage controlled, not resistance controlled... It would also require additional circuitry...

No problem... You might entertain the idea of ordering from a US based vendor... I, personally, don't like ordering from China or Hong Kong... Sorry for mistakenly providing a link to a vendor from China... Others may not be as preferential...

Wrong one again...!!! You have got to make sure you are ordering a resistance based unit, not a voltage based unit... You can tell by looking at them if it isn't stated in the description... The one you linked here states 3 - 32 VDC and it should say something like 470K - 560K Ohms... Then you can control it with a 500K 2W potentiometer...

Edited to add: If you have PayPal, order one of the following... The 40A would run cooler...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/24-380V-AC-470- ... OSwx2dYDff~" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SSR-40VA-40A-So ... u23a2a7IQw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Or from Auber Instruments...

THANK YOU, Sir. Spent my life on a backhoe so all this is very new to me.

Have PayPal.

Even has a diagram at the bottom of the link for wiring the pot  .

Many, many thanks to another member here for helping me stumble around HD. He happens to be my neighbor ! None of this would have happened without his and rad's help.

The Auber one is a nice model, but why not just buy from Larry over at http://www.stilldragon.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow. You could buy the components separate or all together in a kit. LWTCS aka Larry is a member here. Here's a wiring guide too, https://www.stilldragon.org/uploads/man ... 131020.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
