propane

Post by runyon »

i didn't find a thread about propane heat, but there's still a good chance there is one and i just missed it. can anyone point me in the right direction, or make a suggestion on what to use? i'm wanting to boil about 10 gallons at a time. what sort of BTU should i be looking for?

Hey mate,

lbs of water x temperature rise = BTUs required for one hour
(1 lb of water x 1 degree Fahrenheit) = 1 BTU for 1 hour
Water is 8.3lbs per gallon.

Equation and bit more info available on this page:

Hope that helps you out.

Cheers.

way more than one. there are 147 pages of threads on propane, 48 pages of threads on propane burners, and 20 pages of threads on btu's.
use btu's to search. turkey fryers are built to boil big pots of stuff. consider yourself pointed. cob

@ eviljesus
thanks! that's exactly the kind of formula i needed.

@ cob
yeah i knew the search yielded plenty of results, just not very many ones relevant to what i'm after. i didn't try BTU in the search, in hindsight that was the obvious thing to do.
