NG Burner?

Post by Backwoodz »

I've been reading about it and our grill is already hooked up. Do I just need to get a burner and a car rim that I'll weld the burner to? ANother thing I still don't understand is the high pressure vs low pressure with natural gas. Can someone point me in the right direction of what to order? Thanks!

would this burner work for my situation?

What would be the appropriate regular? The whole high/low pressure is what's confusing me.

NG at the house is low pressure, is regulated by a regulator at the street and takes a larger orifice. Any hardware store will have the connections for a grill on natural gas.

If you can't find a burner...they can be converted from LP to NG by drilling the orifice to a larger size. That new dimension is usually 1/16" - 3/32".

Google it...liquid propane to natural gas conversion

Get a low pressure burner and there should be no need for a regulator.

I have 4 of THESE http://www.agrisupply.com/cast-iron-burner/p/64494/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow converted to natural gas by drilling to orafice to 1/8". They work perfect and very controlable. As Dad300 mentioned it could be 1/16" or 3/32'' , so start with a small bit and step up 'till it's right. The first burner you posted will not convert to NG well. The second one may give you a good flame but I don't think you'll get enough heat with low pressure to get a keg boiler to temperature in a timely manner. I highly recommend the BG-14.
One last thing, DO NOT work with gas If you're not comfortable, or know what you're doing with it. Safety 1st.

I understand working with gas to an extent. I understand what HP and LP are. Kinda how a regulator works. It's the conversion part.

Of you're unsure, just ask the guys at the hardware store. You already have an outdoor NG grill, so adding a burner for a turkey fryer/corn pot to your outdoor cook center wouldn't be questioned. That way you could have it inspected if you desired to make sure it's safe. Just an idea to ease your mind.

My local hardware store wasn't very helpful. They didn't even have conversions. If I purchased this burner, what would I need with it to run twelve gallons of wash? http://www.agrisupply.com/m/Product.aspx?p=64494" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

I have two of those burners and converted them to nat gas with Blichmann conversion kits

The output was a little low so I went up two drill sizes in the orfice and they now work better. Not as much power as the propane but a lot cheaper and more convenient to run.

Hope this helps
