Simple question regarding copper fittings for builds.

Post by norton54 »

Is there such a thing as a copper coupling such as a 15x15x22mm t-piece that doesn't have a lip to stop the pipe going all the way through? How can you get past this? I thought about drilling the correct size but it seems my pieces are crimped to create the lip so I'd probably create a hole there.

Thanks.

Depending on the crimp depth just take a small file to the inside. Then smack it through with a hammer or on the floor.

I had similar dilemma making my liebig, I just ran a drill through to make clearance but mine werent crimped. If all else fails just drill then assemble the parts and run some solder over the cut in the bottom of the crimp.
Maybe an easier way but thats how id do it :)

Wonderful, thank you gentlemen!

I tried smacking a bit of 15mm through... it wentt hrough alright...

But very squared off - and very stuck. Bloody expensive bit of copper too, normally my stuff is salvaged from junk yard, I hope it can be saved. Least the fittings are tested to be tough!

The file is the usual way and easiest, just file a little then check so forth and so on until it slides through. Good luck.
